They say you're only as good as your last race.

So I'm gonna put it simply and say red bull with mark webber at the wheel is the fastest car right now...until canada, then we'll see who's fastest then. Problem solved :D

Really though, red bull is the only constructor with 2 wins so far and the highest on the WCC points atm

Monaco aside, Webber's hanging around just outside the podium, and Vettel not content being just there, it's hit or miss as he tries to get more out of the car whichever way possible, tactics or completely different set-ups. The only reason they're at the top is because they didn't f*** up as much as the other teams, but they definitely don't have the speed.

The common denominator in speed at the front is still McLaren, followed by a very fluctuating but still consistently fast Mercedes. Then Ferrari and then Red Bull/Lotus.

I see what you're saying. You are right that red bull has not $#@!ed things up nearly as much as other teams. whoever completes the ~305km the fastest wins the race. Red bull has done it twice as many times as any other constructor up to this point. So they're definitely the fastest team right now but surely they're beat on a single lap though which is why they likely aren't going to get their 10+ pole positions this year lol

Does anyone know who got the fastest laps in the races so far?

Fastest laps need to be taken with a pinch of salt in some circumstances due to some drivers (e.g. Perez) not being in a situation where they have to be concerned about saving tyres.

Which makes me think that with the current tyre situation there would be benefit for giving a point or some points for the fastest lap. If someone gets shuffled to the back, it would give them something to fight for. And for those at the front, it adds something more into the strategic balance between going fast and preserving tyres.

IMO the cars are very close in performance ATM. But, I see 5 main contenders. Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus and Mercedes.

Fastest car? Well, there are just so many variables you could come up with all the contenders as being fastest given the right criteria.
Wet or Dry
Q or Race
Hot or Cold
Getting setup right
Which tire
Full or empty fuel load
Start or end of stint
Upgrades
....... more

The last 3 races give us 3 very different circuits. Points per team (hope I got this right - quickly did the math) over the last 3 races:-
Red Bull - 82
Lotus - 62
Ferrari - 41
Mercedes - 35
McLaren - 20

Since Winter Testing (last 2 races)
Red Bull - 45
Ferrari -31
Lotus -29
Merc - 24
McLaren - 16

Although with so many variables going by who's scored the most points since Mugello isnt very telling. Especially when Lewis had pole and had to start dead last instead, we never saw the pace he could have shown from out front.

Well, what spanky's post shows us is that Redbull are schooling all the heavyweights who have been in F1 since forever (except Merc). Good on them I guess.

I'm surprised webber isn't on the list. I think he had like 6 or 7 fastest laps last year and was the only driver to post one without winning a single grand prix, until brazil, obviously.
