New Force India car to run next month

By Jonathan Noble Friday, January 25th 2008, 10:52 GMT

Force India's new car is due to run for the first time at Barcelona late next month, just a few weeks before the opening race of the season in Melbourne.

With the team's new livery and sponsorship package due to be unveiled at a press conference in Mumbai on February 7, the team are planning to give their 2008 challenger its first test at Barcelona on February 25.

That will mark the start of a three-day test for the car, with which the team hope to be able to challenge for points this year.

Team owner Vijay Mallya said at the end of last year: "We now have to work to make India proud of its team. We have to however be realistic.

"There will be no miracle in performance in 2008. Even with significantly more input and aero development, all of this takes time.

"From 2009 onwards I am looking forward to obviously significant improvements. I am clear where we want to be in two years' time: at the Indian Grand Prix in 2010, I want to see a Force India car on the podium.'

After their last car 'launch' I think something semi-decent is in order. It hardly costs that much.

I'm not so sure I agree with the second part of the article, however. Force India competing for podiums and race wins in 2010?! Sounds like a nice sound bite to gee-up the sponsors.

Force india on the podium . . . maybe by 3010 . . . if all the other teams come down with a dose of the Elboa virus and explode (google it :P)

the boys and girls @ force india better be praying for rain cause that's the only way they are getting a podium. They should be happy if they just finish a race

If it rains and Sutil's still driving for them by then, perhaps a win would be on the cards... remember the wet free-practice session last year when he was fastest?

All in all, it depends how the team does this season. The B-Spec car was pretty good when it was introduced allowing Sutil to run 11th at Spa for most of the race and battled with Coulthard for 10th. So there is some potential, but this is thrown out of the window again by the fact they have built a new car for this season.
