......Every World Cup, England is talked about like Demi Gods on the brink of winning it, only to end up failing miserably. 99% the fault of the press of course, but it doesn't help the cause of the team....../quote]

^^^ What he said. The press build them up and build them up, then they bleat on and on and on about 1966, and about how football is coming home. And what happens - they play as if the match is getting in the way of them topping up their summer tan!

You've gotta laugh. That's all I can say.

Well after seeing our squad for the tournament i'm sure we won't get out of the group now.Woeful squad.
Green,Johnson,Lescott,Barry,Milner,Downing,Welbeck,Defoe,Young,Carroll all simply not good enough.Half of those can't even get in their club sides. Then we have Gerrard and Lampard that have never been able to play in the same team,Rooney out of form and suspended for the first two games ,we're doomed :hehe:

Isn't the winner of these world soccer events generally the team the referees pick?

What soccer? I thought it dated back to the Mayans or something... whatever, I'll just update my list of useless random data. Getting back to the concept of the world, yeah it was a European concept to consider Europe the world, or at least the civilized part of it.

Kicking a ball, a skull or a stone around is not a hard concept to invent for ancients. The coded game that we know as FIFA Football was invented in England which is apart of Europe... :P

Why are England's players training so late? They only started on Wednesday and the Chelsea players aren't there! Most players could've been training with the national team once the league fixtures ended. I kind doubt the other nations have so little training time. Why was the initial training camp supposed to be based in Spain? Completely different conditions and the players are based in England.

Anyone fancy some fantasy football action on this? Similar to the F1, you get a budget and pick a team...

Starting to get excited about the tournament now :D

Watch out for Poland, i think they are gonna do a very good job especially as they're at home... they are my dark horse pick. They really could to get to the quarters. Also got my eye on Italy, they may surprise everyone cause no one is really expecting them to do anything.

I'm now excited too. International tournament football is the best, you get the chance to watch every game, they feature some great players thrown together, unlike at club level where there is so much coaching and planning for the type of team they have, this time it's about working with what you have. The owness is on the players to make a difference.

Looking at England's squad going back a few years and comparing it to the other "big nations", I think it's crucial that the others all had roughly equally good players competing for a first team place, creating competition and giving the manager options. In England, the first team seems to have picked itself, we don't have that many players playing top level club football.
