Nah! But Ive seen worse.

I think if I was in Martins place I would of let Lewis drive back to the pits, and then not be able to supply a sample and then plead ignorance. Stopping him on track flagged up something to the powers that be.

I think he was thinking that it was like after the race when drivers are told to pull off the track and stop the car. The penalty was crazy, I think whoever was stewarding in Barcelona needs to get their head in check.

He was probably s*** scared about pulling him off that pole run (that was Lewis' for the taking) when he realisd the fuel error, for fear of further conspiracy talk.
NB I dont think theres a conspiracy! :P Just incompetence.

Incompetence and conspiracy are quite often close cousins.

Not sure about close but one does get mistaken for the other.

Do they have to provide samples after every run? or can the FIA randomly demand samples during a session? or is it only after the session/final run?

Lewis Hamilton remains convinced that his and McLaren's fortunes will turn sooner rather than later and he will start to capitalise on the pace he's shown so far this season.

Hamilton boasts a near perfect record in qualifying after five races having finished Q3 with the fastest time on three occasions and the second-fastest time twice.

However, he has actually started from the front row at just three of those events due to a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change in China and then a fuel blunder by his McLaren team over the weekend in Spain, which saw him relegated to the back of the field.

The 2008 World Champion's best race finish also remains third place, Hamilton having lost positions through no fault of his own thanks to pit-stop errors by the team in both Malaysia and Bahrain.

McLaren's latest gaffe last Saturday prompted media speculation about what Hamilton might look to do when his contract at the team expires at the end of the season, but speaking in the aftermath of his recovery drive to eighth from the back of the grid at Barcelona, the 27-year-old said he was just simply focused on challenging for a second title and was sure that he would eventually get the results his pace merits.

Whitmarsh: Lewis behind the team
"I'm not looking at the bigger picture at the moment, I'm just looking at the season, and I want to win the world championship," Hamilton said.

"Of course, these last five races with the situations I've been in has not helped.

"We could have a healthy lead in the championship right now if we had capitalised on the performance we've had in qualifying.

"But we've just been unfortunate, and at some stage things will come together for our team and we'll get the points we deserve. That's bound to happen at some stage."

He added: "At least I can say I was happy with my race yesterday. It shows the strength within the team, and shows that I'm on form."

Despite being hamstrung in his attempts to turn his impressive speed into a race victory so far in 2012, Hamilton's 100% points-scoring record means he remains right in touch in the Drivers' Championship - the McLaren driver in third place, just eight points off Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso at the top.

The cynic in me does wonder if Whitmarsh's attempt to circumvent the truth initially played a role in the 23 place grid demotion? If they gave no instruction, had Lewis simply drive back to the pits and then the stewards extracted the .8 liter, they may have simply decided to take away his last timed run in Q3 or some other balanced punishment. Force majeure my butt!

Next time I empty the coffee pot at work and not make a fresh pot, if someone gives me a hard time, I'm claiming "force majeure."

Everyone, please forgive me...this post has nothing to do with the topic or even F1.

Bubbie, you made me spew my FUZE tropical punch through my noes as I was scrolling down this forum and saw your avatar!!! My wife has banned me from watching the Smokey and the Bandit movie franchise. I've watched those more times than I'm willing to admit. Thanks for the laugh (and reverse snort of my fruit juice). :D

The most important question that no one has raise about Lewis this week end is WTF is going on with his beard!?!?!!?

Beard?! Heck, I've been monitoring his ever receding hair line. For such a young chap, he's losing that battle fast. He may soon have to pull a "Jordan" and shave it to a perpetual shine. Poor lad. No worries Lewis, we love you just the same. We'd rather you win races and lose your hair than the other way around.
