F1 is supposed to cater to the fans but it's supremely annoying that we, as fans can do nothing about this. Many fans (not just of McLaren) have been let down today and it feels like Formula 1 doesn't realise, nor care.

No wonder so many people despise this sport. I love it but it's really difficult to love a sport that can be this atrocious.

Come on,even as a non Mclaren fan and someone who loves the sport,you must see that this judgement is OTT.Think about it,they have placed him behind a car that didn't even make the qualifying rules,Mr Karthikeyan in the HRT.

Let's hope you feel as strongly if your favorite team breaks the same rules one day,i suspect you would probably have a different opinion.Know one is saying Mclaren should not be punished this one is way OTT.

I guess some love the punishment of Mclaren or Lewis more than they love the health of the sport,just saying.

Penalise the team then, not Hamilton. He didnt put the fuel in the car. He drove balls out to get a perfect lap and put it on pole half a second ahead of the next guy, all for nothing.

It's a team sport. When a driver breaks the rules and takes, say, a drive-through penalty, the team suffer as well.

It's a team sport. When a driver breaks the rules and takes, say, a drive-through penalty, the team suffer as well.

The fact McLaren were penalised in 2007 and the drivers not removed from the Championship show punishment can and has been given to a team rather than the drivers in the past.

Why they choose to apply this rule today when they didn't choose to do so when Vettel stopped immediately after the Bahrain Grand Prix is worth a mention.

Because the rule only applies to qualifying for some bizarre reason!

On the punishment, I think it's kinda extreme, starting from 11th would be a more fair punishment, e.g. only disqualified from Q3, not the whole session!

Penalise the team, not the driver. Some would say that penalising the driver is the ultimate way of penalising the team but I say that''s just rubbish.

What did the driver do to deserve starting last? Jack The team screwed the driver over and made the mistake so the team deserve a penalty. In any team with any driver, not just Lewis and McLaren. Take away one of the 8 engines, deduct some constructor's points, give them A GIGANTIC fine but don't, under any circumstances penalise the innocent party. The rules need a re-think.

That'd be like a gang of chavs assaulting an old lady and stealing her purse and then the court sending the old lady to prison.

I really think they should give 1 point for the pole sitter, spice things up a bit.

On other news, congratulations to Williams and Ferrari. Unfortunately, thumbs down for Mclaren . Seems like their stop is due to fuel levels, remember Canada 2010?

FIA Charlie Whiting did issue statement stating that teams will be summoned to the stewards if they stop at the track after fastest lap in Q3. If the issue is about fuel, then I hope they get penalty from this. If not, every team is going to try to run just enough fuel for the lap and just let the car stop after the quick lap.

EDIT: Everyone should head for their favourite weather station and look up Barcelona...possible rain?! Whoa..

Sorry, but F1 is a team game. You win as a team, loose as a team. The driver is part of the team, so in theory, FIA is penalising the team as well.

If Hamilton wins this race I'll do something really extravagant. Like say Vettel is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Sorry, but F1 is a team game. You win as a team, loose as a team. The driver is part of the team, so in theory, FIA is penalising the team as well.

But not directly. The driver is directly affected, the team indirectly. The team come off penalised as a secondary party because the driver's hard work and determination over that one, single flying lap that put them on pole is stamped on, crumpled up and thrown in the bin.

Agreed,i mean i think a punishment is warranted but this is way OOT.To be placed behind a car that didn't even make the qualifying rules just beggars belief to be honest.

You can't really blame it on the FIA because Mclaren have given them the chance to exact the oot penalty.

I think if we get any at all, it'll only be light and won't affect the race.

You still don't understand. The driver is not a separate entity, the driver is an element of the team. Every mechanic is an element of the team. Directly or indirectly, you will loose as a team, and celebrate championships as a team. Think of it like this: By winning championships, it will make both the team and the driver better off. If you are better off with winning championships together as a team, then you should expect to loose as a team.
