I'd be able to make it, will be in Europe from August onwards so UK should be within reach.

By the by...I still can't decide if McLaren have made a mistake by sitting out their race drivers for the test. If they still manage to qualify on the front row in Barcelona (1 car at least which I don't expect...), hats off to them.

Over halfway through practise and the Mclarens only just look to be setting a time. Sixth for hamilton. Hope that improves :(
Button third.

Interviewer just asked Mclaren if it was the right thing to only take test drivers to the test at Mugello. The reply was -oh yes, we did so much work and the test drivers are so consistent. :yikes:
They're 4th and 8th at the moment. Alonso topping the sheets and Vettel second.
Two practise wheel changes just went ok.

Who was the interviewee at McLaren who said that?

I dont know because you couldnt see the person just hear him. It wasnt Whitmarsh. I think they said he was something like manager or director, cant remember but it sounded high up.

There is no doubt that it was very important for the drivers that use the sims most to calibrate and spend time actually on track. However by my calculations; there were 24 hours or so available of testing. A race lasts 2 hours, technical calibration and setup is an open ended iterative process. One of drivers actually requested time but was unable to be accommodated. All of this also seems to have been decided ahead of the season, oh and finally a new direction on how air flows over the whole car from the front has been decided at this test session.

In view of all this, we would normally have to conclude that by not even giving a fraction of the time to a driver the experts are correct and have achieved a benefit mere mortals can't see. Yet with the McLaren of the last few years lingers the feeling that they might have relied too much on technology and textbook operational processes. Surely it is not impossible that they have played too cautious or simply errered, as simple as erring in a pit stop or two

One things for sure, we will be non the wiser as to whether it was a mistake to not take the drivers for at least a part of the test, we won't know till at least FP1, maybe not even then, maybe by Q3, or the end of the race, or maybe the end of the season to be really sure. Having said that it could take a few years to really see the benefit, if not a whole generation

So let's just stop asking questions of the teams, and of our political leaders and religious leaders, let's just accept what we are told and never dare to see for ourselves, that's the nice easy lazy route, but we will be popular!

Kindov depends who gives the answers

Probably the wrong thread to just comment on Practice session stories! Posting in here sets a tone so its understandable Acos took it the way he did.

Thats a good point Bud, I should have posted it in the Spain thread maybe. Anyway 1st and 4th in 2nd practise, so looking good :D

But I'm always right, apart from when I talk about Ferrari and make qualifying predictions.

I bet if Hamilton loses pole it'll somehow be directly Whitmarsh's fault... :hehe:
