I didnt say I knew how to engineer a car.

Whitmarsh said '"There's a reasonable chance we will see it on Sunday, which will be the first time our drivers experience it," he said during a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in.

"We got a lot of feedback from Mugello, so we have the data to set it up and can find the performance on track."

So looks like another great decision that makes sense, the test drivers have tested a very integral part of the car and the drivers get to drive it on Sunday? This is a decision made by 4 accountants and a computer

Conspiracy would be too generous to this management

They're presumably not preventing it being run on Saturday for the hell of it, it's a part that's going to be manufactured late. Possibly the test drivers tested a developmental design of the part itself, having already had a run in the simulator with that part factored into the car.

Another one  testing aero parts would not matter who is driving to get the track data required to correlate with the wind tunnel, CFD and simulator data...

Whitmarsh said on the Sky F1 show that the test drivers where used to compare the Simulator version of the track and the real version of the track, so that the simulator software could be improved. Jenson and Lewis did not have the time to spend days and days in the simulator banging around Mugello.
#302392
Well Lewis did have the time and asked if he could go.

All the teams had a valuable opportunity to let their racing drivers test at a track. Mclaren chose not to saying they had no major updates. This was a lie because they do have major upgrades. Now the drivers have to go to the race no having driven this car when they could have done so. Lewis asked to do so and his request was declined. Why? Because Whitmarsh thought it might give him an advanage over Button? If as has been stated, just as much benefit can be gained from the simulator, then it wouldnt have given Lewis any advantage over Button, so they could have let him go. If an advantage was to be gained by being at the track then those drivers should have been there. Rubbish decision :banghead:

Where was the major update? Higher nose may look major but it's to going to make much difference!
Get over your anti Whitmarsh stance it's quite pathetic!

Read this.

I did read it. And I think its rubbish to say their race drivers dont have time to go to a test when there are so little opportunities to do so. And Lewis did have time and desire. Hey now heres a radical idea. Instead of using the test drivers to improve the simulator and make it like the track, why not just let the race drivers drive on the track.
#302401
They don't have the Time to run the simulator as much as the test drivers... You obviously read it wrong.
And you think it's such a big deal they didn't test the parts? How is that different to any other race weekend where they run parts for the first time on a Friday? Tell me I'd really like to know!

I'm really fed up with this topic, no matter what you will find something negative with the McLaren team. Typical whinging Pom!

There's not much advantage to having the race drivers on this track, it isn't a GP circuit.

Back to the topic though, you can't call this one Button favouritism, since McLaren didn't let him test either. Blame the test drivers if you want.

I know its a different track, but it would have given the drivers a chance to see what the new part felt like on an actual track rather than a virtual one.

Button couldn test because he was in hungary doing a demo, so neither of them were allowed. Talk about biting off nose to spite face.

And G'day to you too mate :hehe:

Whitmarsh is not f*cking up McLaren, do you think that Ron Dennis would willfully allow for Whitmarsh to screw McLaren over? I believe your dislike for Whitmarsh is clouding your judgement because of your perceived unfair treatment of Lewis Hamilton. Martin Whitmarsh is but one man, McLaren's big problem in recent years is bad strategic calls and pitstop blunders, Whitmarsh can not be held solely responsible for that; the team as a whole is a problem and these issues need to be addressed, both drivers have suffered because of pitlane blunders!
