At what point does this thread become libelous with all these unfounded and baseless claims against McLaren and Whitmarsh? :hehe:

Maybe Zurich_Allan could provide some legal advise, just incase. :D

Lol, well defamation is a complex area as the same comment could be considered defamatory to one person, but not to another dependent on a variety of issues, two of which would include:

- Is / are the comment / comments likely to lower that person in the expectations / estimations of others (this is especially complex as if it can be shown that the people hearing the potentially damaging comments already held the person in low esteem then it can be deemed that no damage has been done even though the comment in isolation could be considered damaging).

- Will the comments be likely to affect the defamed person's professional reputation / standing (in such a way that it's likely to affect job prospects, promotion prospects etc.). There must be a 'real' risk presented too, not just a far fetched hypothetical one.

Difficult to answer these authoritatively in cases where people are in the public eye (and thus open to 'fair comment') but also part of a professional company (different to - say - celebrities who are just famous for being famous). There are other considerations but these are two potentially relevant to the types of things we're talking about.

Thanks for the explanation Z_A.

So as Whitmarsh is pretty low in the estimations of the "Lewis Loonies" and their rantings are not likely to cost him his job they are free to continue bashing the poor chap? "Fair comment" is an interesting term in your explanation. Is there some sort of legal test to define what a "fair comment" is? Would this come back to a resonable persons interpretation of observations?

To be honest the conspiracy theory sound like hogwash to me, but if Mclaren have no major updates for this test they will be the first big team in years not to have major updates coming into the Euro leg of the season. If they're not adding parts, why the **** not? Maybe they think the car is fine. !!*&%$$$£ :censored:

They are testing new parts just nothing major. By the sounds their next major update revolves around the rear end which isn't ready yet probably why they want to give their test divers a run. They can still work on setup work try nd understand the tyres better with extreme settings as Jenson put it.

1) No Jenson, No Lewis and nothing major to test.
2) Whitmarsh thinks Mugello testing isn't necessary.

No 1 - a team will put their biggest efforts into where they think they will reap the biggest rewards. IMO McLaren think they have already have the fastest car and the biggest rewards will come from understanding this years spaghetti tires and improving pit-stops. Not sure that's the best strategy really as I'm still not convinced we know the real pecking order or the cars.

No 2 - McLaren have the best CFD and simulation systems and software in F1, they have invested heavily in them. That makes them less dependent on track testing as they need to do less laps to correlate their data. Conversely other teams need more track time. I think Whitmarsh sees this as a way of keeping an advantage. Of course, it would put a big smile on my face if the FiA and teams agreed to ban all CFD and simulators (except for 12 days a year) as part of their cost cutting exercises and went back to track testing :hehe:

Don't think that smile will materialize anytime soon....as many teams on the grid (including Williams) have put in way too much into the technology for the FIA to ban it to that extent. :D

No.2 is crap, no team would prefer simulations over real track data!

What simulations do is point to where there is potential... data gathered at the track is for refinement. You need both.
