I was chatting with my uncle the other day about mixing F1 up a bit, i came up with an idea, which in my personal opinion a good one :lol:

How about having less teams but having 3 drivers per team?

At the moment there is 11 teams = 22 drivers but the gap between the front runners and the back ones is growing by each race so if there was just 8 teams with 3 drivers to a team maybe the whole pack would be more closer ????

8 team with 3 drivers = 24

Was the a time in F1 where there was 3 drivers to a team?

Good or bad idea? :P

I think two racing drivers is a nice number to have. Also, I'm sure how many teams would be willing to spend money on three drivers? It will mean extra wages and other costs etc. This also will not fit into Mosley's plan for budget caps. Three drivers would certainly have the potential to keep the drivers' championship going for a lot longer, but the teams would do something about that. Although team orders are banned, there's no rule to stop the team giving their number three driver inferior equipment and strategies, unless you're McLaren, in which case Mosley invents that rule for the team.

3 driver's would lead to the 'middle child' syndrome, I'm happy with two.

2 is better, but some teams back in the 80's sometimes fielded 3 cars.
