Except Lewis isnt testing. He's not allowed.

Neither is Button. So I guess McLaren are screwing him as well or are you saying that one driver needs more practice than the other or that only Hamilton should be allowed to test and to hell with Button?

:(

Button said he didnt want to test, that it wasnt neccesary. Lewis said he wanted to test and felt it was very neccesary. Nothing to do with needing more practise, all to do with sorting out the problems the drivers are experiencing with the mcLaren in race conditions.Buton doesnt feel he needs to be involved, leiws feels he does. lewis isnt going

Has the thought ever occurred to you that Lewis could be... *gulp*... wrong?
#301616
Either could gulp be wrong. But it would be nice if each was allowed to try out their ideas .
(and actually most of the pitlane points to Lewis being right, they're all taking their race drivers)

If that is the case then chances are that if Button wanted to go then he'd have been told no. With no updates it is perfectly sensible to allow the reserve/test drivers to take the strain.

It's about the overall effect though,

If there aren't any updates there's no real benefit to running the race drivers as they already know what the car is like, can't do comparison work if there isn't anything to compare too.

The Test drivers who will spend a lot of time in the simulator, won't have driven the car for a long time, getting used to it's actual performance, and may improve the correlation between the car on the simulator and the car on track which could result in a net gain over the season as updates/ setup work becomes more reliable.

Jenson and Lewis only made the comments about their preferences in response to McLaren's decision.

I don't see what this has to do with Jenson.

From Mclarens point of view the reserve drivers need time in the car. Look what happened with Ferrari and BADoer! If he had time to test mid season it would of not been so woeful
#301626
Your right. McLaren have played a blinder, its all the other teams got it woefully wrong. With a tight championship and tyres/cars difficult to understand get your testers in there!! Not the guys who've been racing the car in the past 4 races.

So now McLarens engineers are idiots? So it's not just Whitmarsh that's a moron, it's the whole team? Seriously, why are you not running McLaren then?! Do you not think it is valuable for their reserve drivers to get a bit of track time so that the team you support can ensure that they have a competant replacement should one of the regular drivers be unable to race? Curse their stupidity!!

Take a step back and look at the bigger picture - it makes perfect sense to let the reserve drivers do the testing when there are no updates. Button and Hamilton have had 4 race weekends and all preseason test session to get used to the car.

Button is being cunning here. He knows that by saying the test is not necessary Whitmarsh will side with him, and as a result Hamilton won't get to test. If Button didn't say it, you can bet that Hamilton would be squeezed into the schedule. Just goes to show who has the say in the team. I tell you, that Button is very good at politics.

Don't you think if having one of the race drivers test was so beneficial to improving the car then Button would be all for Hamilton testing? Or is he now not wanting McLaren to be pace setters, he is happy with his one win for the year?

You guys are really impossible to reason with. Every little thing at every race has been done on purpose against Lewis! Worst part is ee have 16 more races to go :yikes:

Took just the McLaren bit out of this highly interesting article:

McLaren’s Jenson Button also did not see the chequered flag in Bahrain.

Whilst running in the points a few laps before the end, the Briton had to pit due to puncture, probably caused by a broken and noisy exhaust that was blowing hot gases onto the tyre.

“A lap later, despite setting a personal best in sector two, Button was back in the pits,” said Auto Motor und Sport.

The official explanation was a differential problem, but Auto Motor und Sport claims the retirement, like Senna’s, was “probably for tactical reasons”.

“Button was in 13th place, with no hope of breaking into the points.”

The retirement means he can now take on a fresh gearbox for Barcelona, without penalty. This could have an added benefit, journalist Michael Schmidt contends, because McLaren is planning modifications at the rear of the car that require a new gearbox shape.

Without the tactical retirement in Bahrain, Button would have had to wait until Monaco for the new gearbox.

We should be worrying more about a stupid team which cares more about giving track time to test drivers than winning races and Championships.

:clap::clap::clap:

Only stupid teams get to be one of the most successful in the sport's history, don't they? :( There's only one team that's had more success, and look where they are now! MIDFIELD!!!!!!!

This thread is a cesspit of all the bollocks and steaming slime that get's waded through time and time again on this forum. Thank goodness it's finally been isolated.

Whats the conspiracy with this?

McLaren broke Buttons gearbox on purpose so he can gain an advantage on Lewis for the next 4 races. :D:D:D

Joking bud. Don't bust a blood vessel. But Lewis has an excuse for the next 4 races if he gets outperformed by Button eh? If there's any truth in this of course. Would like to hear it from the drivers themselves before believing it.

Don't y'all think that this is being blown out of all proportion? No new parts, so no development to be done, all that could be done is set-up work, which is pointless given that F1 does not race at Mugello, it makes more sense to give the test drivers (it is a test after-all) three days in the car to learn the real life characteristics of the car which can be taken into simulator work as vaptin suggested! What's the point of having test/reserve drivers if they are never allowed to get into the car. My view is that McLaren want their test drivers to be upto speed with the actual car!
