I visited the McLaren Technical Centre near Woking this week and talked to the people involved in the electronics work. Here's my report:

Interesting read, chock full of things I hadn't come across before. Thanks.
You didn't go there in costume did you?

Re: McLaren Technical Centre
What sort of data speeds are they transmitting, is that 1.9G per second or over the race?

Re: McLaren Technical Centre
I think the article said 1.6 and I thought it has to be over the race, just for the telemetry basically text and xy coordinates which is a staggering amount of raw data. The on board video has to be separate, and although it may use the same radio system to broadcast, it would be WAY more than 1.6 gigabytes of data over the race.

Re: McLaren Technical Centre
So, does that work out as
120 sensors, 32 bit, 1.6G Byte, 100 Minutes
120 sensors, 4,000,000,000 readings in 100 minutes
33M3 readings per sensor in 100 minutes
so each sensor is updated 5K5 times per second.
wow
standard TV is 3.5Mb/s

How do you go about getting a tour there?
You're like a dog chasing a car. You'll never catch it and you just wouldn't know what to do with it if you did

I did a more focussed piece on my visit for Automotive Electronics magazine:

Re: McLaren Technical Centre
Interesting.
It is on a similar note but did you see the MCU's being made on Sky F1. I don't think they would of my "bigger the blob, better the job" style of soldering.
