Anyway, what's up with the 'volunteering' to be a gunman? I thought these guys are trained week in and week out, some personnel being specialized for handling pitstops, etc? Or am I completely mistaken, and does every team practice this morning assembly thing where Whitmarsh says "Ok who's our gunman today!" and a few raise their hands "Pick me pick me!"?

Sounds a bit absurd to me, but I'm sure (hope) everything is done way more professionally than what I'm thinking here.

The guys have a primary job role as mechanics. The guys who operate the wheel guns will volunteer, but it won't be a case of volunteering on the day; they'll likely volunteer to do the role at the start of a season and carry it out until they're tired of it or are asked to step aside and let someone else do it.

Dont think Lewis' problem was just a pit-gunner problem. People love to send blame into someone... but lots of things could (and prob did) go wrong at those moments that the wheel nut had issues.

Also... why on earth would Mclaren be hoping to hinder Lewis??!! it:
1. Makes their team look bad
2. Takes point off their team, constructors, drivers etc
3. Makes life harder for the driver and car (climbing back is definitely tougher than cruising)
4. Makes their driver look bad.

Why on earth would it be even close to deliberate??

Button was on a troubled car, perhaps that's why Lewis was able to chew all that time? The people doing the math above didnt take that into account.... time to correct your formulas boys.

I'm still not happy with Nico's non penalty. Lewis could have easily spinned into crashing into Nico... would it have been Lewis' fault??

The move on Alonso was a bit more of a block... but the one on Lewis was terrible. He literally took a swipe. It did add spice to the standings though ;)

It's hard to explain it to Hamilton fans... It always was...

No, its hard to explain it to 'Idiots'. Every fanbase has these - be it Lewis, Seb, Alonso or whichever driver - they all have fans with some crazy obsessive opinions. But please do not think all 'Hamilton Fans' have these crazy opinions.

I think its sad that people cant hold differing views without being called idiots, crazy and stupid. Counter the arguement by all means, but why insult?
I dont mean you Myown, your wife may be on to something there!

I assume you mean me.

It wasnt an insult. It was a statement of fact. I referenced idiots, because some peoples opinions on McLaren are idiotic.

Not specifically you no, in fact rarely you I think. Just a bit fed up of it generally. Even Mclaren are questioning their organisational procedures but if its questioned on this forum the same old loonie, idiot, conspiracy talk is trotted out.

In fairness RC, and this is not me moaning or having a go, but it does come across as if thats ALL you talk about, how Whitmarsh favours Lewis, and they are screwing him over deliberately. You may wanna do some self PR, and just lay off it a while...?

Favouring Lewis? now theres a novel idea. If you look back over this page I was talking about the problems with the wheel nuts and gave credit to Whitmarsh for his sensitivity in dealing with that mechanic. When up starts the loony conspiracy talk again,...not by me.

Im not just going to stop putting my view because it doesnt suit some peoples ideals, but in this thread we were discussing wheel nuts.

No one was talking about conspiracy theories or Lewis being disadvantaged by his team for some time now, so whats this post for?

And our formula is dead center, Button was on a perfectly fine car which he couldn't drive fast enough as it wasn't "balanced to his liking" which is his standard go-to excuse whenever he's off the pace. The car started having issues in the last 5 laps of the race, not before.

I think that the difference between JB and LH is that LH just wants to get in the car and race, JB is into the whole 'team' thing, getting to know everyone on his team, building the team around him, and that had given him the edge in my opinion, LH tends to drive around problems instead of moaning about it and getting him team together to want to help him overcome issues. Of course this is just my take on the situation and the comments that were made by Martin Whitmarsh, the "and Lewis is learning too..." comment particularly.
