F1Live: While apparently pleased with its F1 involvement, ING's Conner was quoted last week as suggesting that the brand is keen to see Renault return to top form in 2008.

"It is in the contract that Renault is a top three team," she reportedly revealed to Dutch media.


So, last season Renault was 3rd only by virtue of McLaren being excluded. This year, I highly doubt they can best Ferrari, McLaren and BMW-Sauber and will end up 4th, which is probably a good reflection of their real strength and performance. Therefore (and since it seems to be in the contract), will ING stop sponsoring Renault? They do a lot of F1 race sponsoring already (Belgium, Australia and this year also Hungary - and they have a presence at 13 out of 18 races), so they don't need Renault.

I think ING should pull up their knicker's, stop looking at the quarterly statement, and understand that F1 has a way of fluctuating from year to year. May I use West and Marlboro and Rothman's as example's?

The ING sponsorship on the Renault looks sickly, so it wouldn't be bad if they jumped ship, just as long as it doesn't go anywhere near Williams, looks good enough with the RBS sponsorship.

Aye but it pays the bills and for all of Renaults clout, the main business doesn't support its F1 team to the degree Honda, Mercedes, Toyota and BMW do.

ING have been around F1 for a few seasons, so having a top 3 clause like that seems weird, if it does exist and extremely short sighted. The new RA28 looks promising and with AF behind the wheel, 08 will be an improvement.

a shame that renault couldnt get a nice coloured sponsor!

with out a big sponsor renault dont really provide much to the f1 team, unfortunately!

im sure theyll come higher than 3rd anyway so it doesnt matter!

Looks are important and McLaren is the most beautiful. It wears its sponsors better than the rest and its colours look fatastic, Goes fast too

Now I'm NOT trying to start anything but in your honest opinion would it be inappropriate for the 'Tidfosi" to view this as nothing but a blind/arrogant and a onesided opinion which they are normally branded with? Inquireing mind's wanna know?
