Just watching replays of the 1st and 2nd practice - and Ted Kravitz has said that it seems McLaren knew that the gearbox would need changing before they had left Malaysia - but only told Lewis two days ago......

Kid Gloves if fear of sending him on a downward spiral....?

So tell him just before instead of letting him get used to the idea and think about how best to deal with it. :banghead::banghead: Or maybe they'd already reassured him it was ok after the 'glitch' in Australia and didnt want to tell him, actually, its not ok :irked:

Think about it this way - they are looking after their driver by stopping him from dwelling on this for 3 weeks. Seems fair enough for a team to do that if it keeps their driver focused.

Article in todays paper says pitstops have been a bugbear for Hamilton and he revealed there has been an inquest at McLaren in an effort to tighten up his tyre changes. "We sat down and I saw all the pit stops and it was really not good" "It was good to understand what happenned. We have worked hard to improve, so hopefully this weekend they will be much better".

So Lewis is asking questions, thats good news. Id say that was political speak from lewis to say he's not happy. Well at least its out in the open and hopefully McLaren will do as they say and improve the situation.

Or you could simply read into it that McLaren in general are not happy , and they feel they can gain time for BOTH drivers :hehe:

LOL...in other words he probably meant 'pathetic'. I think his biggest problem is his race engineer. Have you seen him? Looks like a nerd out of high school, probably does things by the book...unfortunately its thinking on your feet which works best in F1. I do believe Button's race engineer is more capable than Lewis', in terms of how information is being fed to the drivers especially in changing conditions.

I do feel McLaren are still very strong in this race, despite the grid positions. In pracci when race fuel was added them along with rbr were very quick.I think this could be a Lewis masterclass this weekend.

I'm not amused with the grid positions, but I still feel the car is strong. I'll be very surprised if Merc retain that 1-2.

We may see the 1-2 evaporate on the first lap - it all depends on how robustly Rosberg chooses to defend the first corner. Michael can be quick off the start and may not want to yield the inside position (I think Schumacher starts from the right side of the grid?).

Button's engineer used to be Lewis' I believe, but when Button joined they moved them all round so as not to give Lewis an advantage....you'd think they could have found a more competent one.

No it speifically mentioned Hamilton. Button doesnt have the problem with his. But yes, lets hope McLaren arent happy about it and do something.

I think he's worse. Maybe not at engineering but at strategy calls. Perhaps he needs assertiveness training, or maybe there should be one guy to do the engineering and a strtegist to help wth decisions about pitstops.

Are you sure about the 'switching race engineers to let Button feel more comfy' holds water?

Because I find that very hard to believe. McLaren can't be retarded enough to split up a successful partnership just to make the new guy coming into the team extra comfortable.

What i heard is that both drivers got newly promoted guys.

Im not absolutely clear who went where. I thought Lewis' went to Jenson. But Lewis and his engineer were definately split up so as not to give him an advantage over Jenson.
