There's no rule stating a lapped car needs to give space to the lapping car, only up to a certain amount of Blue flags are they forced to yield but up until then it's the lapping cars responsibility to get passed the car.
As already stated there is driver editquette that must be followed which is agreed upon in the driver briefing, and that's to stay on the racing line so the lapping car knows where the lapped cars going to be.

Vettels problem was he went for the pass just after the exit of a corner, he would have been better off doing it into a corner entry. NK would have had a better idea where he was.

I think if this was someone other than the current world champion then we'd not be discussing this incident, nor would a penalty have been given. For me it's just a racing incident nothing more nothing less, 50/50 blame.

Karthikeyan is the one being overtaken, thus he needs to give space to Vettel. Vettel -when in front of the backmarker- has the right to the racing line as long as he leaves Karthikeyan enough space on the racing track, which he does.

Yes, but even when being overtaken, you have to assume that the driver once they've overtaken you is going to continue to follow the racing line. Vettel didn't do this. For whatever reason (I don't know what and neither does anybody else except Vettel) he instead DID squeeze Karthikeyan and continued to move to the OPPOSITE side of the track from where EVERY other car on that straight was going. Was it him 'flexing his muscles' metaphorically by bullying a car out of the way as some have alleged? Maybe, maybe not, but regardless, it was an unnatural and unpredictable line which makes apportioning full blame very much a debatable point.

In other words - this biased analysis has 'proved' nothing.

It was a racing incident at best, no punishment should have been given to either man as neither can possibly claim to be entirely blameless beyond doubt.

He wasn't being overtaken, he was being lapped. Karthikeyan had no business trying to retake the racing line. Different if they were racing for position but they weren't.

Unless you see a different picture, Vettel was not moving to any side.

In frames 1-3, Karthikeyan is going in a straight line. At this point, he was not one any white line anymore. At this point also, Vettel is already mostly past him, as the rear angle shows Vettel was already just past him when Karthikeyan rejoined the track. so he does not need to move to get off the white line; he's not on it.

Karthikeyan does however need to move slightly for the upcoming curving of the track, which he does in frames 3-5. In frame 5 however, you can see, that he is now at a point on the track that if he continued straight, he could have made the curve without touching the white line.

The problem occurs that while in frame 5 he is in a good position on the track, Karthikeyan keeps moving over to the left from frame 5 to the collision in frame 9. It is that move that caused the problem. That is what the stewards deemed unnecessary and why they gave him a penalty. (not that I agree with the penalty, just explaining).

Of course Vettel could have given him more space, but there was no reason for him to assume that was necessary, as there was plenty of space, certainly for the split-second it would have taken to get fully past.
