YAAAAYYY! LEWIS ON POLE! SECOND TIME IN A ROW! FIRST EVER POLE IN MALAYSIA FOR LEWIS!

Get off the line well and you might have half a chance.

Five things to look out for:

1.) The weather.
2.) Jenson Button having better tyre wear.
3.) That flat spot on your tyre.
5.) Sebastian Vettel on those faster Prime tyres.

Five things? Where's number four?
Prime tires are not faster necessarily, but last longer.

Is that Schumi being faster than him or taking him out of the race

The start is going to be massive. Grosjean ans Schumacher will start good, Webber maybe (?), Vettel on fantatic strategy (I was cheerig for him to go out on Hard tires). McLaren guys will have to give their best. And don't give up on Kimi and Perez just yet... Alonso too...

Notice Hamilton is more subdued this time after pole....thoughts already on race pace and the 1st corner I hope.

Rain or shine, bring it on!!!

I don't know how many of you have noticed, but Sebastian Vettel set his time in Q3 on the prime tires, and will start on the harder compound tomorrow. A few considerations I've made:

- Vettel's 1:36.631 is actually the fastest time on prime tyres we've seen this weekend. Raikkonen's fastest time in Q2 was 1:36.715, although I'm not sure if that was on soft or on hard.
- Where most drivers seem to be almost a second faster on soft against their hard times, Vettel is only 0.4 seconds off pole and just 0.25 off Button and Schumacher.
- Pirelli expects the soft-starters to make at least three pit stops, as Kuala Lumpur is heavy on the tyres. They actually expected more drivers to qualify on hard.

So what do you guys will happen tomorrow? Is this a brilliant strategy that will pay off? Being relatively close to the front in time, while on primes, will he have a shot at the win? Or is it all moot and will he be brawling with Raikkonen for and Schumacher for the last place on the podium?

Considering the race speed he showed in Australia, and the fact he's quite close in time while on hard tyres, I think he's got a good shot at mingling with the McLarens in the long run, though it will take some time to pan out. I think he will go prime-prime-soft and use his tyre-saving skills to make for some interesting last laps, either for p2 or maybe (maybe) for p1.

Shouldn;t this be in the Msian GP thread? Yes, it was easy to notice he went on harder tyres..RB knew they had crap pace so had to try something different. Maybe they could grab a podium tomorrow.

Im not sure this deserves its own thread, probably just needed in the Maylasian GP thread. But anyays the tracks rubbered in so of course his will be fastest of the weekend on Primes. But if he is held up like he was in Australia at the start while everyone's on faster tyres around him then he will just claw back the gap when it's switched later in the race.

But seeing as its almost gauranteed to be wet then it's probably a stupid call not to use the options.

Yeah does this really require a whole new thread?

Should I go and start a thread that Kimi has a 5 place grid penalty or that Schumi is 3rd?

Vettel felt that car had more balance on the Primes and he oddly couldn't hook it up on the Options so I think he did the right thing in any case.

I'm liking the top three here. Hopefully Jenson can jump Lewis at the start again and we can see a big squabble between those two, maybe Michael as well. I'm happy that Kimi is in the top-ten this time, although it's unfortunate that he is down in 10th; the Lotus race pace looks good and I think he would be a strong podium challenger from 5th. Vettel's strategy could be interesting. As long as he doesn't get jumped by too many cars at the start and stuck behind some of the slower guys, he could be on for a podium if the option tyre proves to be a significant advantage later on in the race. All in all, it has the potential to be exciting, so hopefully that's how it will turn out. :D

I think that we'll have dry or maybe mixed race. I can't remember the last dry race here, it was long time ago...?

Were you actually watching races in 2011? Or logging online to see the results at the end? :hehe:
