You'll have to explain this to a silly american

Don't feel too badly, he'll have to explain it to a silly Englishman too (I am guessing that a vid was shown and I don't get to see them).

Sorry. Sports Relief, its a charity thing on TV. They support some excellent causes. But of course to get your money they play very sad videos about dead children!

Like Children in Need it is a good cause. However, if you watch it you have to endure z-list so-called celebrities making complete twits of themselves. As we know, these no-names can't just write a cheque and send it to a charity. Oh no. They have to appear on national TV bascally saying "Look at all this good work I'm doing anonymously".

On the night, i agree there are people there just to be on TV. However, some of the physical challenges the celebrities do each year, probably raise much more than they could write a cheque for, and are to be commended in my book. Examples....

July 2006,David Walliams swam the English Channel, 22miles between Dover and Calais, in a time 10 hours and 34 minutes, raising just over £1,000,000

July 2009,Eddie Izzard ran a series of 43 marathons over 51 days for Sport Relief, raising over £1,152,510.

Sept 2009,David Walliams swims a 140mile length of the Thames River, in 11 days raising just over £1,100,00

Feb 2012, John Bishop completed a 290-mile (470 km) triathlon from Paris to London in five days, and they announced last night he had raised as staggering £3,400,000

Now any of those achievement's can't just be about getting Telly (although I am sure, thats part of it). I take my hat off to all of them. Esp Eddie Izzard - thats just mental!! And I think he should of raised a LOT more.

There were other events, but either I couldnt remember them, or they were hiking up mountains - and even I have done that for Charity - it isnt that hard.

Didn't David Walliams end up with bubonic plague or something similar as a result of his trial by Thames? (I seem to remember Sky new spreading the word).
