I love this sort of discussion, and in the last year have been thinking about doing a OU degree on it.....

I love talking about this stuff too, even though I struggle to get my head around it sometimes. The universe is a wondrous and mysterious thing. As a kid I was lucky enough to live in a small village adjacent to an area of reclaimed marshland. There was nil light pollution out on the marshland and during the school holidays I'd wander onto them late in the evening, find a clean and dry patch of grass to lie down on (had to beware of cow s*** ) and just stare up at the cosmos counting shooting stars. I still do this occasionally although I've noticed it takes me way longer to get back up off the ground these days...

I thought that current thinking said that the Universe is infinite, in which case, what is outside infinity?

Or are we having a crisis of terminology?

Solar system - a sun and the planets that orbit it.
Galaxy - a unique construction of stellar objects comprising mainly billions of stars, solar systems and nebulae (and black holes - aka bank accounts)
The Void - (made up term) the incomprehensibly vast spaces that exist between galaxies
Universe - the box with no sides in which all the above sit...
