Great first race of the season, go Jenson!!!

And unusually on raw pace I think Jenson had the edge on Hamilton today, he just seemed to be that extra tenth quicker at numerous stages in the race. Also the Mclaren looks like a beaut of a car and I think the fuelling issue masked it's true pace today.

Bring on Malaysia!!

Pretty decent race. Good faultless drive from Button. Gutted that Schumacher was let down by the car but I doubt he’d have been able to stay in the top 4 given they way Rosberg’s went.

Maldanado was impressive in the Williams. It’s a huge pity that he binned it on the final lap but these things happen. Hopefully he’ll continue for the rest of the season at this level and bag Williams a good few points.

Happy that Vettel salvaged 2nd after a disastrous qualifying session. Hopefully the Red Bull doesn’t fade as the season goes on.

Sauber look to be continuing in the same vein as last season - slightly odd strategies that pay dividends in the race. Glad to see Kobayashi continuing to be the best overtaker in the field. Hope to see more of his wild moves throughout the season.

Much that it pains me, I need to give a final shout to Ferrari and Alonso. They pulled it together for the race and managed to score what must be a satisfying 5th.

Everything's ok, except the part for Maldonado. IMO, he deserved DNF. Why? Ask Grosjean.

I will. You got his number or e-mail address? :hehe:

Seriously, I'm with Coulthards opinion on this. The pass was done so Big John should have conceded though in his defence it is debatable whether or not he would have seen Maldonado. Judging by how far he was from the apex, Big John may well have known that Maldo was coming through. Just one of those things really.

Grosjean did leave him space, Maldonaldo wasn't prepared to do his part I think, and leave Grosjean space on the outside coming out of the corner (Grosjean had left Maldonaldo the inside heading into the corner). Grosjean won't be so obliging next time. Good wheel to wheel action depends on both drivers respecting each others space so as to avoid contact, the cars are so strong nowadays it seems the drivers are being less careful.

These things happen. Thankfully no penalty was given to anyone. Incidently, who was the guest stewart?

First and foremost, Jenson Button drove a tremendous race. Scampering away from the rest of the field at the start, and at the re-start, in a fashion that reminded me of Seb running away into the distance last season. He never looked like being toppled, and what's more, Martin Whitmarsh has hinted the cars could have gone even faster, had the team not made a mistake with the fuel calculations.

Red Bull seemed much better in race-trim than what we saw in qualifying, and both drivers came on strong in the second half of the race. The same goes for Ferrari... well, Fernando Alonso, who, as usual, wrung the neck of what looks like a total dog of a car. Felipe Massa was as bad as ever... way off the pace of his team-mate, and spending lots of time embedding his car into the side of other people's. If he carries on like this, the bell really will be tolling.

I feel we have yet to see the true potential of both Lotus and Mercedes... both teams who showed much promise, but bad fortune intervened. Grosjean was unfortunate in the battle with the ever-feisty Pastor Maldonado, but I would put it down to a racing incident, in which the Frenchman was unlucky to loose a wheel. Kimi Raikkonen did well to put his quali disappointments behind him to clamber back through the field to finish 7th, behind an impressive Kamui Kobayashi.

The Sauber team used their strategies to good effect, and it's nice to see them remain in the results this time, rather than get disqualified as they did this time last year. Toro Rosso also look strong, and Daniel Ricciardo made the biggest strides in the last lap battle that thrilled everyone on the run to the finish line. The midfield looks excitingly close this season.

I was gutted for Williams. The team look to have made leaps and bounds over the winter, but everything went wrong for them today. Bruno Senna's race was wrecked in the turn 1 mayhem, while I was stunned to see Maldonado loose a great haul of points on the final lap. At least there's potential to build on in the coming races.

Hopefully, we'll have HRT participating in the race next weekend.

So.
Alonso spun the car and couldn't continue in Q1. Nevertheless, he nearly graduated to Q2 sitting still.
Massa on the other hand, was able to and did continue for more laps, as ,any as he could, as fast as he could, and was still a few places aft of Alonso. Had he been able to drive out of the gravel, Alonso surely would have made it into Q2. Q3, probably not.

Actually Alonso beached it in Q2 not Q1 mate. He posted a time before testing the gravel trap and that time got him 12th spot. I wonder if the extra fresh rubber will help him climb a few places?

Yeah sorry Q2 what I meant. Could have gone into Q3 but not Q4 LOL.
