Safety car was needed, it just felt like the SC was out there a couple laps too long, It did take a while for the lapped runners to get thru the pack

I like what rule but what they should do is make it so they cannot weave and they all have to go to one side of the track. That way the lapped cars can come through much faster and then just add an extra lap to allow them to warm up their tyres.

I also feel like if it's raining they shouldn't allow them to come through.

I'm not sure about Kimi this race, he had the pace of people around him but he didn't make much of an impression, seemed more gifted that position by all the people crashing or retiring around him. He didn't seem to overtake anyone unless their tyres were off and let Koby past on the restart after the SC.

Maybe the car just isn't that fast on race on race pace, maybe it cannot heat it's tyres up as fast and that is why Kimi went 20 laps on the Yellow tyres when no one else could or maybe it was just him and Gro would have done a better job.

Either way I look forward to see if he delivers in the next race.

He overtook 3 cars on the last lap, what more do you want.

That was my point, one retired and the rest hit each other because Koby overtook them all too and Kimi didn't overtake Koby to regain his position.

It leads me to believe it doesn't heat up the tyres as fast, the car isn't as fast as the Sauber as it did seem very fast in the race or he just wasn't fast enough. Not sure where he would have ended up without the SC as he needed to pit again but it is likely the SC dropped him a couple places.

Fantastic race! Really enjoyable!

Button had a flawless drive. The McLaren this year looks 100 times more sexy than 2011. I'm happy with Lewis' pace - a solid result.

Not really a serious Hamilton fan are you.:P

I have to say I got a bit emotional watching Maldonado battling with Alonso. That livery brought me back to 1996 all over again. Same with Senna - I'm still getting used to seeing that helmet driving a Williams! I'm hoping that the Williams team of old is back and will be competitive throughout the year. If they can finish above Lotus I'll be over the moon.

They have no chance if they have Maldanado driving for them. Tool of the race was reserved for Massa, until Maldanado snatched it on the last lap.

Haha I'm Lewis through and through - I would have loved for him to replicate his qualifying pace but he had a solid (if quiet) race. Nothing outstanding, but it's important that he picked up a podium.

No doubt the safety car was needed. It seemed a bit dangerous when the lapped cars were going around the leaders. So close to knocking one of them out while they got heat into the tires.

It's a pretty terrible rule. Very dangerous. Can you imagine it being enforced somewhere like Monaco? A big crash will almost certainly occur some time this year. Scrap it.

Really good race, enjoyed it a lot,

Mclaren has the best package for now, Red bull's race pace is much more better than there Quali pace, and Mercedes is the opposite to Red Bull. Good drive from Button, a clear winner, Webber finally beats his 5th place in a Minardi with a 4th today. Good effort from Alonso and also happy to see Ricciardo recover to get 9th for STR after that insane last lap in the midfield, And what about Massa, the gap between both Ferrari drivers is going to be a bit bigger this year due to a crappy car for now.

Martin Brundle doesn't like the rule, He clearly pointed it out during the coverage, as for myself, I hate having lapped runners in the mix with the front runners during a restart and then again I hate Its takes time for the lapped guys to get thru to get unlapped and waste 1 or 2 racing laps. So i'm 50/50 for now. I'll see how the next SC period goes next time round.

There's an easy fix to this....why not the very next lap the SC comes around to the main straight, the whole field keeps to their left/right while the backmarkers slot out and race ahead? The front runners will be reminded, so that they do not weave around and we get rid of the backmarkers all in 1 go.

Or give all cars go-go-gadget wheels that lfsts them 20ft above the track, and the wheels as wide as the track, then they can drive past them all :) but only if they are back markers. CW can press the go-go gadget button.

I am missing the BBC Red Button Forum...

seems like Martin Brundle has a lot of quality question for every interview, and just kept on getting butted by that Simon and Damon Hill.

Though Sky still kind of fall short to BBC's overall show, but they can improve by letting MB ask all the questions and Damon to add on to that. As for the Simon, he should seriously watch some BBC F1 shows and see what Jake does.

Very exciting first race, although McLaren have clearly given their drivers the best car on the grid, race pace is a different story than qualifying. Button had a fantastic drive, flawless, and did look like Vettel more than himself out there today, quickly gapping the field beyond the DRS 1 second and then extending the lead. (DRS was useless anyway in Albert Park) Regardless it's put up or shut up time for Lewis, he's got a winning car, and the rest is up to him. No complaints, no mistakes, just drive smart. He should have had a sour puss today, he lost the race at the start, and he's simply not as good with the cold Pirelli rubber as some of the other drivers on the grid.

My hat goes off to Alonso for showing why he should be the Ferrari numero uno. Massa in Melborne was an embarrassment, and I kept wishing Kobayashi was Driving Massa's car instead.

Sauber is in 3rd place in the constructors championship! :hehe:

Mercedes had a facepalm performance, it's clear their cars are harsh on tires and their Q pace meant nothing, today and that's a shame, they need to be up there fighting for podiums. Third year into it, there are no excuses, they are not Caterham or Marrusia.

Red bull will be competetive, but they're going to see the world from the perspective of McLaren last year, they'll have to fight hard but they surely can get consistent podiums given the race pace and the performance yet to be found I'm sure.

Kimi was entertaining today, good job on him to come up the field, he exceeded my expectations!

I don't think you're idea of the line up on the grid, instead of SC is entirely thought through. What happens when, like last year, cars up to about P6 had been lapped? Just have the frontrunners weave their way past half of the grid?

I 100% agree. There were too many awkward moments of silence too during interviews. Not flowing and smooth enough. Humphrey, DC, EJ, Brundle and Kravitz are the dream team.. I need to let go!

AND PLEASE GET RID OF THAT CRUDE SKY TV THEY REPLAY THE ACTION ON!!!.... COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY!
