man, awesome race. So excited for the rest of this season after the snoozer last year.

Incidentally, I think it's time to do away with this safety car BS. There has to be a better way to resume a race after a pause to retrieve a car. After working the whole race to build leads, the drivers deserve to keep them.

No way dude I think the safety car is a must, they just need a better planed strategy to get cars off the track faster, Kov sure did pick a great place to stop didnt he? :banghead:

It's because Caterham are running Red Bull gearboxes, Red Bulls KERS and a Renault engine! IT'S A CONSPIRACY GODDAMMIT!! :yikes:

Safety car was surely unnecessary. FIA deliberately gifted a position to Vettel.

I call :bs:

If a car tried to overtake down the straight with Kov sitting there then it would've been extremely dangerous.

Seb was just lucky, Lewis wasn't. Simple as that. And this is coming from a Lewis fan.

Excellent Race. Not exactly the perfect result I would of hoped for. However if this race is a sign of the season to come, there is going to be some excellent racing.

Points to note:

McLaren - Excellent start and result for Button. Not such a good start for Lewis - bit of bad luck with SC. But thats racing. Just hope Lewis can take care of his tyres a little more.

Vettel - had a bit of luck with safety car / other retirements to help drag him up the field - BUT when there he got there he drove well, and did excellent keeping Hamilton at bay. Also good to see him make a little mistake towards the beginning, and going off track - just to prove he isnt the 2nd coming.

Schumacher - really unlucky, for him today. Was really hoping to see him take bottom step of podium.

Williams - really good day for Maldonado (apart from the last lap... oops). Good to see Them being competitive again. Hope they can keep it up.

Ferrari - well that is a beast of a car, and Alonso is doing well to get it where he does. Massa - I believe a lot of the back of the grid drivers could be doing a much better job than him now. Someone on here made the crazy statement the other day on here that Ferrari should dump him now and get another driver. I think I agree with that person. Cut your losses and move on.

Sauber - Perez and Kobayashi both had some excellent driving today.

Fantastic race!!! Starting with that crashes in first corner, some drivers starting very good, some losing positions. And then that fantastic move from Vettel on Rosberg, outside line in chicane, AWESOME!!!:clap::clap:
Button was just too good today, great car, great pace, smart driving. Hamilton managed to get on podium, although he's sad, but, that's life. I'm glad to see Vettel happy, that's important! I know that he'll keep biting and fighting!
Webber almost on podium, last lap was insane! Great job from Perez, Alonso, and Kimi too... I hated that bad move from Maldonado on Grosjean. No need for contact. Massa, disasterous as usual. Vergne almost managing to score a point. Hulkenberg so unlucky... All in all, great race! :D

Best part of the race for me was the podium ceremony, Hamilton looking like someone died which was good to see....he drove like he had 200 laps to go, and the last thing I wanted to see were smiles and celebrations on the podium. Did he underestimate the tyres and drive thusly? Even so, letting Jenson get a 3 second advantage isn't wise.

He needs to stop the rot from Race 2 onwards, or else it might be a repeat of 2011. Redbull are pretty quick, they just didn't show it yesterday.

Congrats to Button for setting the pace and taking a well deserved victory.

How about reform the grid, take off in timed I intervals of the gap you had before the race was stopped?

exactly what I was thinking (or even setting off out of the pit lane in single file). I don't see why it would be so difficult.

go.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.

1, go.

3, 2, 1, go.

etc.

I was annoyed at the SC as it cost a 1-2 just as it did in 08 but

Petrov couldn't park it any further, not his fault,

The car couldn't be pushed up pit straight in a DRS zone. Just unsafe.

So the Race control had to call a SC.

Okay but what about penalties? The timing would have to be exact and I think would cause too much confusion. The safety car has always been and will continue to be the best option, in my view.
