I have my favorite, but I'd take Button over Webber, over Massa and over many other drivers on the Grid. He's a WDC, he didn't come in second to Barrichello and he's proven that the regulations and tire situation last year favored his style of driving and he got the most out of it. McLaren are loving the fact that they've got the best 1-2 punch on the grid and rightfully so.

The reason Lewis is the most popular driver on the grid is because he simply inspires that type of response in people, in his fans and not so much fans. Here's the thing, let's say you have an opportunity to drive a hot exotic car for ten minutes on a track. Something powerful and emotional that will rip your throat out if you're not careful. Do you then say to yourself, let me drive this beast as smoothly as possible hit every apex sensibly and make the tires last as much as I can... or do you say I'm going to grab this thing by the scruff of the neck and man handle it around the turns and see if I can take a few thousand miles off the life of its tires in the ten minutes I have to play with it? Be honest.

Like him or not, he's exciting to watch, he's always in the mix, and no one will ever rule him out in any situation, least of all Button.

Lewis and Jenson both have their attributes. Lewis possesses more outright speed, I would suggest, while Jenson often gives a more thought-through and considered performance. Both ways garner great results. But we know all this anyway.

Yes, most of the accidents were his own fault but now it seems that Button is suddenly rated higher than Hamilton because, "He's the first team mate to ever finish ahead of Lewis in an F1 season." Quite a few things wrong with that statement. First and foremost, Button didn't outperform Hamilton on pure speed, he just didn't crash as much and didn't have as many outside distractions.
Second of all, let's look at the past. '07 - Alonso and Hamilton equal on 109 points, so that's a draw and some would say matching your team mate is pretty good, even if it was Lewis' first F1 season. '08 - Lewis won the title but against Heikki Kovalainen - not exactly the same calibre as Alonso or Button. The same in '09. And in '10, Lewis finished higher than Button.

I still cannot understand how there can be rival fans between the same teammates. I just don't.

I respect Hamilton and Button's talent immensely. You both think that just because Hammy crashed, Button's achievement is now null and void. You both also seem to neglect to mention that this is not a case of Brazil '11, with Webber taking a win because of Vettel's bad luck. Part of being an F1 driver is being able to handle your god damn car. One crash, alright, I get it, fine. Things happen. However, Hamilton let everyone know exactly how to be a completely unprofessional F1 driver in 2011. If Hamilton would have crashed one race in 2007 in addition to anything else that happened in that season, would you all honestly be here saying Alonzo didn't beat Hamiliton, no no, he was just lucky, because the double world champion at that start of the 2007 has those titles because everyone else just sucked that season and he was lucky. Seriously guys, get your heads out of your asses.

With that said, I am a fan of Mclaren First and foremost. Part of that is because the teammates are Hamilton and Button, but the other part is because I really like that team. I like how they do things.

Onward, I have no doubt, between the two drivers Hamiliton is a faster driver and I believe Button is a much more responsible driver. As much as I hate to admit it, F1 is getting softer by the season, and aggressive, hard core driving outside of the qualifying sessions is going to get you nowhere very very fast.

I think Hamilton is a great person and an awesome driver to watch, but I also as a REAL fan, am able to see his faults and not try to make excuses for the clear and stupid mistakes he makes. I hope that he has his head on straight this year so he AND BUTTON can destroy the rest of the field. This is because no matter how much some of you like to think after the '11 season that Button is now the #1 driver, I trust that Mclaren does not have a 1/2 relationship. It is a 1/1 relationship and because of this, both drivers need support of the fans.


I will book mark this exact post and page, and I WILL be coming back here. If hamilton pulls the same s*** as last season, I'll laugh my bottom off. If he destroys Button I'll be in here celebrating, if that actually got him somewhere.

This happens every season, the Lewis Hamilton fans, some jokingly, some deadly serious make the assumption that Lewis will trounce Jenson without any solid evidence of that happening. I believe that Jenson will be stronger this season now he has truly settled into the team and I believe he is a more complete and better driver than he was in his world championship winning year!

I believe 2012 will be a great battle between the two Brits, if Lewis has gotten over his 'issues' then it should be a great battle, pretty much everyone thinks Lewis is the faster driver and Jenson is the thinking man's driver. Lewis goes hell for leather until his tyres fade or some collision happens, Jenson starts off slow but looks after his tyres better and picks up the pace and picks off his opponents in the closing stages as his tyres are often in better shape, or even has to make one less stop on occasion, both are great drivers, I think it's foolish to make assumptions!

Sorry if it was not clear in my post, but I have a truck load of respect for both drivers but if I (and most of the F1 fans, pundits and paddock) were to pick a favourite - they'd pick Hamilton; even after the '11 season. He's more exciting than Button, can make a car go faster than Button, knows where the grip is more than Button and takes more chances than Button. Yes, that last one has got him into trouble in the past but as the great Ayrton Senna said, "If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver." While Lewis is not quite Ayrton, he's the closes thing Formula 1 has.

Jenson Button is an amazing driver and McLaren easily have the best driver pairing on the grid. Button doesn't crack under pressure, can make tyres last longer than anyone else, drives the car smoothly and can bring it home. He can deliver when called upon and never gives up (Canada last year). That one race gave me more respect for Button than I already had. He's a stand up guy and deserves a place in the team and among the top rostrum of drivers.

It may seem this way, but I'm not a Lewis lover and Button basher - I respect them both. But the fact remains - Lewis Hamilton is simply a better driver overall than Jenson Button. Last season should be taken with a grain of salt.
Lewis Hamilton had to deal with two close friends passing away and troubles with his girlfriend. Could you successfully compete in an F1 season with those things on your mind? I didn't think so.
Lewis has admitted that outside distractions hurt his season and wants to improve this year. We'll see how he gets on.
