The poorly designed course was certainly a contributing factor. Maybe a rethink of the sport is in the cards...

it always feels weird watching a video where you know a life is lost. it looks as if no one in the stands anticipated the outcome judging by the casual reactions.

From what I gather that type of ski racing is more dangerous than others because of the speed, jumps and layout, and the multiple runners on track. What gets me is why they call that safety fence, when everyone that hits it dies.

You'd think they'd move it as far back as possible especially near jumps and have a form of safety net or something in case of jumps that go astray.
