Im very excited about not having to watch valencia every year. But...........if it comes with spa being held every other year, im not on board. I would rather not sacrifice spa to every other year to have valencia every other year. Spa is my favorite track and I need to see it every year

I think it's a good idea.

Alternate the Spanish races to allow variety in the calendar. We don't need a "European" Grand Prix - that's just stupid. We also don't need 2 GPs in the same country in the same year. Just like alternating the German GPs works very well.

We all know that Bernie will alternate Belgium and France in 2013/2014 and will do the same in the USA. It makes a lot of sense. It allows for new ventures to be added to the calendar and that's a good thing. F1 isn't European any more, it's Global.

As seems to be the majority decision, I think this is a good compromise solution. Also agree that they shouldn't even consider making Spa share on a similar basis, it's the best pure racing track of the current crop and has to be every year.

It all comes down to money though. MrE will quite rightly sell his product to the highest bidder.

I'm sure that Ecclestone would like to have 20 races in oil rich countries, where they are willing to pay super mega bucks to have those races, but no-one will watch, it's more than simply selling to the highest bidder. I think that Spa/France will alternate because Spa is struggling financially and no-doubt France does not have the funds to go it alone!

And watching is big for Bernie. That's why he wants Oz to be a night race so more Europeans can watch it. Plus now many have to pay to watch F1, so more money to fill his ever-deepening pockets...

You need to realize that the racing isn't Mr. Ecclestone's product. The viewing public are his product. If he doesn't have good races for us and the fans in the stands to watch then he won't make all his sweet, sweet money from the advertisers and race promoters.

He sells a product (F1) to various venues so it is his product until someone else buys the commercial rights. F1 will always attract an audience. You just have to look at the number of races that most of us watch fully in the knowledge that it is going to be a yawn-fest in the off chance that something interesting happens.

Maybe I wasn't clear. Bernie is selling YOU and the RACING to the Advertisers / Broadcasting Rights holders. He is not selling Formula 1 to the venues. That is just a nice side deal.

He'd sell his mother if he thought he could make a healthy profit from her.

Big article about him in last weeks Sunday Times. he didnt come out too favourably

He wouldn't care what the venues crowd numbers will be, he has made his money from the local organizers paying him for the right to host the race. Ontop of that Bernie's main $$ grabber is the tv rights. So I agree with Andrew, the product is F1. Bernie doesn't give a toss about the race goer at the track if he did he wouldn't make Australia a twilight race starting at 5pm.
