I remember one of his best performances at Melbourne (other than the obvious 5th place in the Minardi at the '02 race) was in 2005. He led the race briefly in the Williams, but it wasn't long before his car ground to an anti-climactic halt.

Whilst on the subject of 2002 and how time has flown by, I remember reading a book back then. A book which I have bought annually for many years now. The ITV Grand Prix Sport Guides (now BBC Sport guides), which I always find to be an enjoyable read. I'm reading the latest version now.

Anyway, following the close of the 2002 season, I was reading the book. In the circuit review of Imola, there is a sentence which I've never forgotten. Imola has claimed many a life, but the dark days of 1994 still sadden. It went on to describe the terrible circumstances that claimed the lives of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna. At the time of reading, Imola '94 was a season that occurred 8 years previously. In my boyish way, I was in awe of how long ago that seemed, a time long before I started watching F1.

When you consider the same passage of time takes us back to the 2004 season, the last one dominated by Michael Schumacher in the age of Ferrari supremacy, it seems amazing! It seems like only yesterday when Jenson Button chased down Jarno Trulli to the line at Monaco, when Ralf Schumacher did his back in at Indy and when Montoya claimed Williams' last Grand Prix victory at Interlagos.

Time does indeed fly.

I'll take it as a compliment, you must be referring to my mature posting style... I'm used to people thinking I am older than I am... when I was 15, people thought I was 18!

When I was 25, Mansell was busy getting a puncture, pitting thereby handing the lead to Senna, then spending the rest of the race looking for a way past him, in a little principality on the Riviera.
