Spent far too much on train travel than I would've liked :irked:

Then drive a car damnit or jump on a British Airways! :hehe:

I can drive, but the price of fuel is also unbearably high, so I don't own a car. Owning a car in London is futile. EVERY form of public transport is faster... even the buses have their own lanes.

I'm not sure either of those would be cheaper. Petrol price doesn't change that much for filling up in advance to equal the equivalent for an advance train ticket.

I did a couple of things today. 1st and most importantly, I finished putting my car back together. I replaced the CV boots which is the absolute messiest job I've ever undertaken in a car. It basically consisted of removing both drive shafts, removing the torn boot and clean out the CV joint of possibly 20 years worth of grease. I disassembled the joints, inspected all the bearings and races and put it all back together and packed it in with new grease.

Cost for parts, and tools that I had to buy to get the job done $125, spaces the work over three days, when I could get to it here and there, and saved myself about 300 additional dollars I would have had to pay a shop to get the job done. The satisfaction of knowing I did it myself, is priceless.

The second thing, I met an old geezer by the name of Heinz Werner Bade. He was a VW engineer in the 40's and 50's and was a well known mechanic traveling around the world for various GPs, and worked with most of the greats including Mossfrom the 50's and 60's. He invited us to see his collection of cars later this spring, said he's got a few GP winning cars from the 50's. When I say old geezer, I mean that respectfully. The guy looks like he's in his late 80's if not into his 90's and is driving a Porsche 993!

Renovated my room to a degree. Traded with my housemate so I now have a CD player, big speaker and a bigger TV. He took my sega, one speaker and portable TV though.

I had a day off! :woohoo:

Back to the mad house tomorrow though to continue my week of random shifts where I'm covering for 2 people (a team of 5 and 2 are put on holiday at the same time  and I'm the only one who can or will work through the day). :irked:

You weren't in Sydney yesterday were you? The heavens opened up for a "once in 100 year event" (they say that every 3 years :irked: ) chaos on the roads and the railway, flash floods sparking right in peak hour!

Took me TWO freakin' hours to get into work instead of the usual 1 hour! Typical Australians when it rains! Bloody hell - one rain drop and they're panicking like "OMG what the #### is that!!??" :yikes:

We spent so long in drought that they seem to forgot their rain driving skills!

Sounds like some people in these parts every time it snows. Heck, even a harsh frost sends some numpties panic buying as if it is the end of the world!

That was actually an idea I was entertaining yesterday!

But... I don't drive, I catch the train and bus!

You'd think they'd be a bit more used to it in Scotland! The slightest speck of snow in London, and that's it. The whole Transport for London network implodes. :irked:
