Ferrari are being incredibly secretive though, they wouldn't do that if they had a complete dud. Reading between the lines they are working on something, just haven't worked through it yet.

Can't wait to find out either way though.

Better to blow it during testing than to come race 1 and be biting dust, like that F150 did after such "promising" winter.......

I think you and Hammer will start the year happy in the knowledge that SF will be way off their best. With such a radically new car they were never going to get through the testing needed. I think they are ahead of where they probably thought they might be at this stage and, I see lots of very promising signs in this car. After China I think we will have a better picture.

I'm guessing the big interest in the first few races will be the Lewis v Jenson battle. As I said previously, I think McLaren are clearly the best car coming out of practice.

Interesting analysis I saw on another site where they quoted Andrew Benson. If you average all the laps of each driver you get the following for the lead two teams from last year:-

Vettel 1:25.340
Button 1:25.664
Hamilton 1:25.937
Webber 1:25.951

I was looking at videos on Sky's F1 page, and came across this piece of news (or non-news for some of you).

This Red Bull system is a copy of Sauber's... not really a breakthrough i'd say. The most interesting feature of their update imo was the bodywork just back from the exhaust where it meets the floor:

It's nothing special to be honest, it's not a radical concept as Scotty has pointed out.

Is it just me or are they trying to push the gas out the side under the bulge through a slot on the floor to the rear?

I'm not 100% sure what you mean there, but what i think is, you see the gap under that 'support' structure or whatever you want to call it, they are using airflow going through there to feed the diffuser and the large starter hole (a double diffuser esque arrangement that many teams seem to be using), the exhaust airflow goes round the sides of the diffuser to seal off that whole area and create an increased diffuser downforce effect - a similar idea to what they ran with the exhaust arrangement last year, albeit not quite so effective due to the positioning and lost power of the exhaust flow. Perhaps this support structure allows the airflow division more effectively (division between the exhaust flow and the flow coming around the sidepods from the front, that is). Maybe that is what you were getting at too.

In a nutshell, it's all about emulating what they had last year, as closely as possible under the new regs. I haven't noticed any major innovations yet, except for the slot gaps in some noses (ie Red Bull and Sauber - which no one still seems to be sure of their purpose!).

Pretty much. Although i think the exhaust gases are directed down the sides of the diffuser, not following the green arrow there.

I think you've got the slots point out well but not the flow. Like Scotty points out, the problem in not only flow but also temperature and density. The hot exhaust gasses aren't as dense as the flow of air coming around it so I think the intent of the exhaust gas is to "corral" the flow of air better and force more of it into the diffuser rather than directly aid the flow.

Newey feels as if he didn't get it right the first time, Red Bull will be competitive, but this year we'll see a non dominant Red Bull.
