I personally think EJ is great. He's an enjoyable character that makes me laugh. And the Monaco pool party made me love the man even more! Although DC lost a few points in my books crying about not wanting to get his new white jeans wet! :hehe:

Ahh such larks! That was immense TV viewing. Made up for the anti-climactic tyre-change situation at the end of the race! :P

I detested EJ at first, and was desperate for him to go. Now I kinda like him. He is like that crippled little puppy, that you just cant bring yourself to put-down.

That was a farce.

To bring this thread back on topic, does anyone else think this abysmal deal between the BBC and SKY needs to be investigated? The BBC cited financial constraints as the reason that they entered into negotiations with SKY. This is of course utter b******s. The BBC contract still had plenty of time to run and was already paid for. They will not be saving money on coverage if, as they state, they will be sending their full team to every race in 2012, so what was the true reason? IMO it was due to the freezing of the TV License Fee. I think this p****d off Mark Thompson who threw his toys out of his pram big style. Out of principle I won't pay SKY a penny and I'll not watch less than half a season on the BBC, so like many others I guess I'll be streaming it live online or downloading torrents of the full races. :irked:

I believe that the BBC pay for the coverage on a yearly basis, not paid upfront for the entire contract. The BBC also have the Olympics coverage this summer which no-doubt will cost a pretty penny. The BBC were pretty open about the cutbacks being because of the licence fee freeze. I am not defending the BBC, but they obviously have their reasons. In my opinion, the TV licence is an outdated idea, I would rather have the BBC advertise like all the commercial stations and be done with it, it's not like the BBC don't advertise with their subtle product placement!

I was under the impression it was a three year deal  The BBC should have approached CH4 who were perfectly willing to buy them out of the contract and at least then F1 would have stayed on free to air. SKY can't organize a p**s up in a brewery so we won't have to wait too long before its back on a terrestrial channel.

It was a three year contract, but it's not often that all three years are paid for in advance in TV contracts, I could wrong about that but I am 95% sure that it was paid annually! The deal with SKY was done on the sly, that's for sure but the deal could have been worse, all races live on Sky and only 45 min highlights on the BBC! In my experience of live sporting events on Sky, they have done a good job in their coverage, lots more options for different feeds and stats, I expect the coverage to be good especially after the BBC raised the bar for F1 coverage in the last two years!

Welcome to the forum, by the way, hopefully you'll stick around for the new season? :)

Thanks for the welcome ;)

I'll stick around on the forum but whether I'll be watching F1 from now on will depend on the quality of continental feeds or torrents I can find. Frankly I've become very disillusioned with the BBC and F1 management as a result of this. Martin Whitmarsh needs a kick up the bum for his involvement in this tv deal fiasco too. None of the people involved have covered themselves in glory and they have certainly not considered the wellbeing of F1. It's a given that SKY won't get anywhere near the viewing figures for F1 that the BBC (it was the beebs most watched sporting content after all) can attract and I suspect SKY will lose quite a bit of money as a result. Personally I hope it falls flat on its face. I shall concentrate on watching this years BTCC races as they are still available on free to air channels thank goodness...
