Are there going to be any decent races left at this point?

Melborne Faces Axe

I know that Bernie has a board to answer to, and that its a business. But dont they realise most of us ENJOY getting up at 5am to watch a race...?? Becasue a) it adds to the excitement and b) it pisses the wife off.

Is it me or it Bernie a tool who has lost touch with reality?

(or is this just Bernie flopping his bits about to show everyone how much power he has?)

I sure as hell don't get up that early unless I'm being paid to do so! :hehe:

You answered this question yourself. He has a board to answer to and investors who expect a certain return from each race. MrE is essentially just the spokesman for his board.

If he is not maximising the revenue generated by each race then he is not doing his job, simple as that. If there is the potential for the Australian GP for generate a higher return then it makes perfect sense that every possible avenue is explored for the race to do this.

Let's face it, he could quiet easily take the race away. At least they have an option to remain on the calander with a night race. At the moment though it'll just be something that is being looked into to make sure a night race is feasible. I wouldn't be too concerned for the Aussie GP at the moment though.

F1 may be a business more than a sport but by remove fan favourite tracks like Melbourne should they not bend to his will is going to alienate the core F1 fanbase, the people that have been lifelong followers of the sport. It comes down to Bernie trying to look like the good guy when he knows that there's a large chance Albert Park may just tell him to go whistle so he can add higher value venues (willing to pay more money to Bernie/CVC), like Russia to the calendar, How long before Spa, Monza and Silverstone get the axe because they won't comply with his stupid demands?

F1 will always have a following and true F1 fans will never turn their back on it. However, just as some fans may give up on F1, new fans wil be attracted.

Only time will tell; I suspect a lot of Australian's will stop watching; which is a big market for F1; the whole reason F1 is returning to the US is to attract more viewers from the US, if grand prix' are to be removed it should be in places like China where it really hasn't taken off despite having a GP for a few years now. Plus I feel that when a sport becomes more of a business than a sport, it's no longer a sport. F1 is supposed to be a global sport, so why is Bernie so obsessed with European viewers when more and more races are in the middle/far east and the Americas?

We must remember that Bernie has, in the past, rumbled on about Monza, Spa and Silverstone all getting dropped from the calendar too. It's never happened. I'm hoping this latest spout of sh!te is also just hot air.

Bernie says this every year of late. Was a shame when the race changed to a twilight timeslot. 2008 being the last normal timed race was nice being able to see the cars properly!

I see Bernie mentions Adelaide in the article, I don't think it's a matter of can they do it, the tracks all setup right now this weekend is the Adelaide Clipsal 500 for the Opening round of the V8SC championship. It's a question of wanting the F1s back and the answer would be no Adelaide doesn't want it back!
The 500 makes money for Adelaide while the GP loses money for Melbourne. I'm pretty sure the 500 has larger crowd figures if not equal to Melbournes GP. Considering Melbourne has a population of 3m plus while Adelaide is only just over 1m.
So even though on a personal level id love the race to come back, it will never happen not at the expense of the 500.

The peculiar thing about all this is; hasn't bernie said europe is becoming less and less relevant to f1 or something stupid like that? Really, he spouts :bs: about europe no longer being central to f1, but is now saying australia could get the axe to please the european crowd.

Someone should just :censored: axe bernie. I'd shed no tears nor feel any remorse seeing pictures of his bloody corpse.

If everybody here pitches in like $20 i'll do it myself.

Nice hubby you are...

I am actually.

Hey I've noticed that if you treat your wife well, she doesn't want to keep you around. Out of all my guy friends, the one who's been in a relationship the longest is the one who treats his woman like the biggest P.O.S. in the world. Life lessons, I tell ya...
