What an utterly ridiculous post Azza. Audacious of you to try and make this all about Vettel, when it really isn't in the slightest. Plenty of other fanboy threads for that mate. :rolleyes:

The OP is Apollo and reading Apollo's posts throughout this thread that has shaped my opinion that this thread is about how much of Red Bull's success can can be attributed to Newey and how much can be attributed to Vettel.

Hence the tone of my post. :thumbup:

Yes, but Vettel and the last couple of years aside, planty of average drivers have been made to look good through nothing more than the fact that they've been sitting in one of Newey's more successful cars. i.e. an average driver can look good, a great driver can dominate. If you put Vettel in a HRT, he'd stuggle to win a point, yet if you put Pedro De La Rossa (Peter pink woolen) in a Red Bull, he'd probably win at least one race.

But then you can cite the differing resources available to the car design team (time, money, facilities, R&D etc.), so there are also other factors.

However when Newey was at Leyton House he managed to turn a team with a budget comparable to HRT's at present into genuine contenders (briefly!).

We can see the contrast between Vettel and Webber. That has been plain to see since Vettel joined the team. The same can be said of Vettel vs Bourdais - who was just unlucky to be paired with Vettel.

In the midst of your essay, I found this. Without wanting to take anything away from Vettel and his talent, it's worth mentioning that the contrast between Vettel and Webber has only been massively apparent in 2011, rather than since the young German joined the team, as you state. Prior to last season, Webber was never far off Vettel, and was sometimes ahead.

In the case of Bourdais, it's not necessarily a case of him being "unluckly to have been paired with Vettel". Rather, he was unlucky to have the car he did at some points during his short career. His car broke down many times when he was in a decent position. He could've scored well in Melbourne '08, but the engine blew. What's remarkable about this is, despite the positions he lost, Bourdais was STILL classified as finishing 7th, which at the time, earned him 2 points.

Take Monza '08 as another example. Vettel's maiden victory often clouds out another other events from this race, but we must remember that Bourdais also qualified exceptionally, showing that the Toro Rosso worked well at that circuit at that point in the season. The tragedy of it all is...Bourdais never got off the line to begin the parade lap, dropping him right to the back.

For me, Bourdais' career in F1 is all about massive potential that was unfortunately unable to be fulfilled. :(

I was going to say a bit more but then I realise I have derailed this thread enough as it is. :)

"Vettel could always leave and have another car designer and keep winning" agh sure go drive for Force India or and win if it's all about Vettel.

That's why I follow teams, F1 is a constructor sport doesn't matter how well a driver does in this game unless he is in the competative car he won't win.

I actually think its much more sad he admits he's a fan boy.

Being a fan boy isn't a compliment. It means you are not a fan because its vettel, you are a fan because he's winning and the moment he starts to tank, you will jump ship.

Derail the thread if you like, it wasn't that great to begin with.

After you see what his cars do and have done.... I think there's every reason to praise the guy.

Last yr's car was a rocket. He must have gotten help from aliens.

Is anybody else tired of the F1 industry and F1 media lauding Newey as some sort of demigod? You could be forgiven for thinking that he walks on water.
I appreciate that he's a fine designer, one of the best but is he the be all and end all? No. The media seem to have forgotten some of the god awful cars he has made, he's made more bad cars than good. His cars have also been driven and won championships/races with some of the best drivers F1 has seen (Senna, Prost, Hakkinen, Vettel) and it does these drivers a disservice to put all of the success on Newey.

Indeed, he had a dry run of over 12yrs with no championships before he struck lucky with RBR. Other great designers who have produced formidable cars such as Rory Byrne and Bob Bell seem to be somehow eclipsed by the cult of Newey. I'd go so far as to say that in terms of design Rory Byrne is vastly superior to the very inflexible Newey.

What say you, tired of the Newey show too?

If Newey pulls the speeding bunny out of his magic hat this year too .. well, hell yea, consider him a sort of a demigod. If that happens you got to give him the required credit.

Newey noster, qui es in caelis:
sanctificetur Nomen Tuum;
adveniat Regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne nos inducas in tentationem;
sed libera nos a Malo.

Or for the not Latin inclined:
Our Newey who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Or for the not Latin inclined:
Our Newey who art in F1,
hallowed be thy aero.
Thy raceday come.
Thy will be done
on tarmac as it is in tunnel.
Give us this day our daily win,
and forgive us our passes,
as we forgive those who pass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from Bernie.

Fixed.
