Monaco is out dated and should be dropped but it is a cash cow so the powers that be would be made to drop it (unfortunately). The cars are now far too fast for such a tight circuit.

<3 Monaco its up as one of the ones i allways look forward to, the one circuit where not being able to pass dosnt bother me that much as anything can happen (see Oliver Panis :) )

And this thread illustrates the very reason why the race is still and will likely always be on the calendar, it's passionately watched by a majority of F1 fans, but it's the one race non F1 fans also tune in to watch... the celebrities as much as the racing. As great as Istanbul Park Circuit was for racing, the fans just weren't showing up, ergo you don't have the money to pay Bernie's fees and that's why it's off the calendar. No money, no racing. Bahrain is back though.

To be honest I find it quite odd to see that line of reasoning used on a F1 forum filled with F1 enthusiasts. I understand it's your opinion, I just find it very very strange. To me - what has been identified by MOA is something I've often heard in the past from casual viewers - the sort that watch the odd race or will watch it with you if it's on but don't really understand the intricacies or details involved.

I am certainly no casual viewer, my comments come from almost 20 years of watching cars going around, playing follow the leader, as proved by Lewis Hamilton last year, making an overtake in Monaco often ends in disaster for one or both drivers. Monaco and Valencia are the two races that I am least bothered about missing, as they both start at 7am in Midwest USA. Over the years, much better venues have been axed, this very year Turkey, which I consider to be better has gone, while Monaco remains 'the jewel in the crown' of F1.

Apologies, I can detect that I offended you which wasn't my intention. All I was trying to say is that it seems odd to me, as it's predominantly from those casual viewers that I've heard the view you've mentioned discussed, it's not something I've often heard from people like you who are hardened fans of the sport. It's just not a point of view I can personally get my head round, but as I said of course that's just my own opinion.

You haven't offended me, and I have never known you to be the sort of person to go out of their way to offend someone; so it's all good! I'm just pointing out that even hardened race fans have their tracks they dislike and are not so bothered about missing, if I miss Monaco, it's a case of "oh well", but if I miss Spa, it's like the world has come to an end.

I've seen some utterly amazing races at Monaco - it's one of the highlights of the season for me alongside Interlagos and Montreal. Long may it continue!
I just wish soulless tracks like Valencia and Singapore would disappear!

I believe if we had not had the upset we did this year with the red flag, we quite possible would have seen one of the greatest finishes to the race. :(

I would've been awesome, I am sure. What a great finish it would've been.

But, when you consider the circumstances leading up to the crash that brought out the red flag... a bunch of cars fighting for places, some of which were out of position, with a further three cars trying to lap them. That accident was practically unavoidable.

We don't condone nationalistic slurs in this forum. :hehe:
