I agree with the OP to an extent....the way people hype up Alonso compared to Massa is amazing. Yeah, he did great last season...but outperforming the car? What is he, God? I don't think so, the natural laws of physics still apply to him as far as I'm concerned! Alonso did as good a job as the car could do, full stop. But there are at least 3-4 drivers on the grid who could've done that job as well.

Same thing with Vettel, I think he did as good a job as what that Redbull could do. Which is a fantastic achievement and what every driver dreams of doing at the start of the season. And as McLaren (the poster) says, what has Webber really achieved anyway? I personally don't care about the gap between Vettel and Webber, same as not caring about Alonso and Massa! "Massa"...lol.

I think everyone here knows that Alonso is one of those drivers that really squeeze the performance of a car to the last drop.

Even when he claims to have "given up"! :P

He has his great days, he has his off days, he has his cant be bothered days and he has his stupid mistake days...just like the rest of them.

Thought you were away to start singing Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. :hehe:

Emotions do see to run high with Alonso on some occasions but to write him off is usually quite foolish.

Yeah, he's a fine driver but he is clearly hot headed and it does get in the way of his performances from time to time. But many top drivers have been angry people, maybe to some extent it's needed. Renault, Ferrari and the paddock in general seem to always report him as a hard worker and very determined.

He had a pretty good season in 2011 though, I think his relationship with his engineer is a big plus, Ok Ferrari aren't being managed by Brawn and Todt anymore - but we'll save them working with Alonso for the fantasy list.

I dooooo hope they get interesting! :ahahah::munchies:

They were interesting to all the Vettel fans.

They were interesting to all F1 fans! I've gone through seasons where the team(s)/driver(s) I support have not done well and still found the season interesting. I can't understand a true F1 fan not finding F1 interesting at any point.

But there's interesting and there's INTERESTING. Three top drivers in similar cars is INTERESTING. A top driver in a dominant car is interesting

F1 is always interesting for an F1 fan. I know this from a die hard Hamilton/McLaren fan that I used to work with and the years of being a Schumacher fan and seeing those bloody McLarens win twice (but at least it was with Hakkinen).

I fail to see how a driver and a team performing at thier absolute best is boring.

I didnt say it was boring, I said it was interesting...as opposed to knicker wetting exciting :D

Nah, it's always interesting but I draw the line at knicker wettingly exciting - very few things in life are that exciting.

 You have a lot to learn!!

Oh?

Do tell.

I don't think we saw that at all bud. Webber was lucky. Vettel was faster than him, posted way more pole laps, led a lot of laps. He honestly looked set to win almost every single race if he had everything go his way.

A Vettel trounced him '09 as well!

What is luck is vettel getting exactly the configuration he needed to win in 2010 at the very end with alonzo was extremely close to stealing it from both RBs. To say webber got as far as he did on pure luck is just being stupid. Sorry, it is. You don't almost become champion in F1 or even end up in a solid 2nd or 3rd place on pure luck. gtfo with that.
