Seeing as McLaren is the only one without it by definition they are far from plain. They stand out!

Stand out as being plain! It's a shame the L shapped side pods didn't catch on. I liked them.

Just because it's new doesn't make it better looking, doesn't mean it's interesting, once the novelty wears off its just going to appear plain ugly.

My interest has nothing to do with how new these are. I'm interested in the design solutions adopted by the teams. Ok?

In a room full of people everyone wears a bright pink tshirt, someone wears blue one who'll stand out?

But I just think because of your dislike for McLaren is what's making you think it's plain Jane. I mean I think a tractor is interesting by design but it's an ugly beast lol

Only one car complies with the new rules without having to compromise, how's that for a design solution? Everyone else is just trying to make the best of what they can from it with various ideas though tbh I don't see it being too detrimental.

I think we'll find out what's been compromised by China

Horner says RB8 secrets lie in the details
Tuesday 21st February 2012, 07:56 by Ryan Wood

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says Red Bull has taken a more secretive approach to its 2012 car, in an attempt to avoid giving away its 'finer details'.
The outfit launched the RB8 online via a video stream, which Horner revealed was done intentionally to ensure its competitors didn't have access to high-resolution images until the first test, giving them less time to study the new car.
"Instead with the presentation of our new car it was just an internet launch," he told Auto Motor und Sport. "We didn't want the competition to immediately photograph our car from all sides.
"At the launch last year, at the presentation in Valencia, 100 photographers were on the pit roof. In no time at all, everyone knew the dimensions of our car."
He also hinted that some parts may have been kept back from the first test, to avoid a similar situation to last season when the outfit debuted its RB7 with a complex diffuser, which was subsequently copied by several outfits.
"Last year we had to show the blown-diffuser early, because we had to find out whether the exhaust gases heated the tire," he added. "This time, the secret lies in the details. Because you don't want to give the competition an early helping hand."

I'm definitely getting used to this platypus nose malarkey, because I become more accepting as each car is released for the first time. This actually struck me as normal today :hehe:

The new Merc looks quite fearsome actually, and it's a car that needs to be as well. In fact, the longevity of this team's F1 participation may well depend on the performance of this car.

Their rear end (of the car) is sooo tightly packed...

You get used to things pretty quickly don't you LewEng...

The Merc colour doesn't help either, this car really looks like 'twisted metal'. :vomit:

Maybe it's just my eyes but the Mercedes seems to have a more interesting bump, it doesn't level out immediately for the front wing section, they have a sort of "blob" immediately after the downward slope of the nose bump.

Yeah it's definitely the most 'refined' bump out there. In a beauty contest for bumps, the Merc would take no.1 spot. With the Caterham being last. :P

I prefer Lotus's it's the most blended. Ferraris' is by far the ugliest and Redbulls makes it look like its from star wars.
