Schumacher tops the time sheets day one!

Just looking back through the earlier pages of this thread and found this! You were almost correct WB! Had you said "day two" then it would've been a magnificent prediction! 8-)

Oh, and that's my 3000th comment ladies and gentlemen! Thank you! Thank you.

McLaren and Ferrari both having problems with the exhausts overheating bodywork at certain points... Ferrari removed a section of the bodywork that was burning today (upper part of exhaust outlet, you can see what they cut out here). McLaren burning the floor just in front of the rear tyres (see here). Seems like these teams are trying to achieve something far more complex than most other teams are trying, even Red Bull's arrangement seems quite 'simple' at this stage.

Interesting note i just read is that Renault reckon they gained 10-20hp and a lot of reliability from the overrun ban...

My understand was that it was getting those hps 'back' to more 2009 levels because of less restrictive exhaust geometry. I would still think Renault would be behind Ferrari and Merc in terms of power, they just gain more back because RBR and Renault were the biggest abusers of the exhausts.

Merc did this last year and the year before that. Set amazing times on low fuel with sticky tyres making many casual observers think that their car was fantastic when it was really a pup.

Well done on reaching the 3000 mark. As a special reward you can have a Red Bull avatar. :D

I think these new cars remind you of your forklifts at work which is why you like them :hehe:

So here's a question for you what's better looking the RB7 or RB8? Answer that truthfully and youll see the McLarens not so bland looking.

They look nothing like a forklift but a forklift with an F1 engine would be something.

The RB8 has the mysterious vent which adds a bit of intrigue but I generally don't like the bumps. I'd have to say the the RB7 is better to look at but the RB8 could potentially be more interesting given the lack of an EBD and the mystery vent.

Compared with the rest of the 2012 cars the McLaren is bland but I think that is due to the bumps being a bit of a talking point and the McLarens talking points (if any) not being so obvious.

The McLaren has a vent that does the same thing too  just not as loud :hehe:

Anyone else feel Ferrari might have messed up with their car after reading this?

Ferrari has a hefty workload with its new car according to Felipe Massa, who has spent the last two days trying to get a better understanding of the F2012.

The car is a complete departure from last year's F150 Italia and the team has described the design concept as "aggressive". Massa debuted the car on Tuesday with 69 laps of the Jerez circuit and then upped the mileage on Wednesday with a further 95 laps.

However, he said starting with a completely new concept means there is more to understand than in previous years.

"Actually it's a lot of work," he after stepping out of the F2012 on Wednesday. "It's a brand new car and it's not like the cars that we've had in the last few years, even to start with. So it's a lot more work, it's a car that you need to try a lot more things with as well. Today I did so many laps just trying such different things in the car."

Asked if there were any unwelcome surprises, Massa said: "You always have that in a new car, something that you don't see the result you'd expect. And with some other parts you have different directions. A new car is always like that, I think it's just the beginning of a new job to have a consistent and competitive car."

At times Massa looked ragged in the new car and was not helped by the blustery conditions at Jerez on Wednesday. But when he was asked if he was struggling to keep the car on the track, he played down any issues.

"It's a lot of work," he repeated. "We tried a lot of different things and a lot of runs we go out with not everything in the car, just so we can collect that data. It's different to how it was in the past, the programme is much more different and also more complicated for us because we tried so many things looking for the performance from a specific piece on the car that you are trying."

I thought the best car is one which the team understands straight out of the box, or is easy to setup. If you have a complicated jigsaw puzzle to solve every race weekend, won't that slow down your process of setup optimization?

Or maybe its just wishful thinking from my side.
