My interest in Formula 1 started when..

I watched Episode 5 of Season 15 of Top Gear. I had the urge when watching all the F1 drivers race on the show, and when Hammond raced the 05' nault, but that senna tribute made me hope in full force and stop wasting time. I went back and rewatched 2007-2009 season. and have kept with 2010 and 2011.

No particular reason for that but many:

During 2005,2006 i would see the sign on the road which says:'Goes to Istanbul Park.' and i would wonder about the races in there. In 2007 i saw a picture of my friend, that picture was at a motorsports venue with great atmosphere so i asked her where she had been. She said that she watched the Formula 1 GP in Turkey. That raised my interest .In 2008 i was listening the radio in car and they were talking about the F1 race of 2008:''It is such nice atmosphere in here.We are proud'' and so goes on.After those i started asking questions to my dad who sometimes followed F1 and finally i started watching in 2009.

I was only 6 when I took a brief interest once when my Dad was watching it, although my full fascination hadn't taken hold yet. I was looking at some of the names, seeing who was ahead of who. My real interest started on my 7th birthday, when I was given a model racing car (I think it might've been the Williams driven by Nigel Mansell). Having briefly seen a race, I decided I would name the car R. Schumacher. I mentioned this to my dad and it turned out the 2001 French Grand Prix was on. I really enjoyed watching it with my dad, and continued to watch the season until the end. I also watched 2002, although it was during this time when my dad fell badly ill with cancer (he died in April 2003 and spent his last months in hospital). My Mum tried to watch it with me just to be a good mum, but it wasn't the same and I began to lose interest.

However, I got back into F1 after I was on a Residential trip. Other people were using the TV and we stumbled upon the Italian Grand Prix 2011, with its very odd crash at the start. I got back into it and I will hopefully continue to watch it until the day I die.

The BMW Williams cars always looked really good...especially the 2001 - 2002 cars.... I miss those a fair bit actually... :cloud9:

I agree...the cars in the late 90s and early 00s probably cemented my 'fanship' for life. I still like this McLaren the best....and a lot more than their current 'chrome theme'. Look at how 'neat' it is, absolutely no bits and pieces jutting out anywhere it almost makes the side mirrors look out of place. Plus the #1 on it helps make it look better. :whip:

As a kid I was into racing in all shapes and forms whether it La mans Racing or Off-road Racing (with the exception of NASCAR) but what truly directed my interest to F1 was the movie Grand Prix with James Garner. That movie made me look at F1 drivers as the driver of drivers. I felt that every driver on the planet wanted to be an F1 driver because F1 was just cooler then everything else. F1 drivers always reminded me of Rockstars for some reason. It always seemed like they did whatever they wanted and always had the best of everything. The attitudes these guys carry are purely fascinating because they live on the limit. With my admiration of the f1 driver also came the admiration of the cars and how sophisticated they were and I used to hate when people thought Indy cars were better than F1 cars. My mom once asked me when I was younger if I was going to watch the Indy 500 and I said "HELL NO!!! are you crazy?!?! the Monaco GP is on!!!" but yeah ever since the 1997 season I faithfully been a fan. The wars between MSC and HAK were some of the greatest pieces of driving I have ever seen. :)

1991 Monaco Grand Prix....

Vividly remember the great looking 7Up Jordan that year...

Also that year, I remember watching Schumacher's debut at Spa, and Senna vs Mansell wheel to wheel down the front straight in Spain.... awesome.

Been an F1 tragic ever since!!!

Am I right in thinking we've chosen pictures of cars that were taken at the SAME corner at Imola???? Albeit in different years???

Might be...but it's hard to tell. Your pic could be from Monza?

Anyway that chicane at Imola is a precious corner for pictures...relatively slow moving cars pounding up on the kerbs!

A couple of years ago, I suddenly got interested in watching different kinds of sports(Before that, I only cared about basketball)...There's something about people competing against each other that intrigues me.....Anyway, I was browsing channels and I saw these open wheel cars going at 300+ KPH. I couldn't take my eyes off the TV set and the rest is history...Right now, F1 is #2 in my favorite sports list...I'm planning on going to Singapore this year to watch my 1st live F1 race(This is the easiest place to go to since there's no VISA requirement for countries that are members of the association of southeast asian countries).

Go for it!!! You never forget your first live Grand Prix..... Mine was Melbourne 1996.

I still remember the hairs on my neck standing up when I heard the magic piercing sound of a V10 come past on full song!!! :D

If you can afford it, do it in style, with the best tickets you can afford, and try to get an event (dinner) etc where some drivers are present, or a pit lane/ pit straight walk, if they offer them....

Once out there, be sure to walk around the track, to see them belting through the CORNERS, not just straights.

By the way, those pics are at the last chicane at Imola, the downforce settings on the cars give it away.....

Singapore looks like an awesome venue to be at too....
