I think the Force India is the best looking so far actually, it's grown on me since yesterday. The nose isn't pretty but the car looks aggressive, functional and quick, which is what i like to see in modern racing cars. The McLaren looked underdeveloped (reminds me a lot of the Brawn which is now 3 years old!) but i have a hunch they have parts not on the release car, so i'll reserve judgement until then.

So you're saying FI engineering is ahead of McLarens? I don't see how the McLaren looks under developed seeing as its an evolution. If it had the block nose would that have helped? For one their exhaust looks pretty developed compared to the other launch cars to me.

I'm not saying that at all, i never said that anywhere so i don't know where you got that idea. I'm talking solely about the looks! Macca just looks how it does cause of the lines of the car and shapes of sidepod inlets etc. Doesn't mean it'll be slow though (which obviously it won't), just my opinion of the look of the car.

And what's Brawn gonna pull out the bag for Merc? Still can't shake the feeling they could be the dark horse this year.

They've been considered a "dark horse" for the past 2 seasons.

lol, I know. It's just thinking of what Brawn did with Honda, having Button and Barrichello trundle round at the back for years and then giving them the car in 09, I can't think why else Schumacher would be so relaxed and willing to stay in F1. He obviously loves the driving but from the start of his career until he retired everything he did was to win so unless he's gone soft in his old age and just wants to drive a fast car for fun I get the feeling Brawn and him must have something up their sleeves.

YUP SORRY! :P

So I said to my wife, the new ferrari looks like a platypus, she looks at the picture knowing zero about f1 and says,

"That looks like a farm tractor. The square front that comes down, with that small notch on the nose or hood what ever you'd call that. Then even the steering wheel looks like a tractors."

I say, what???

"That thing, *pointing at the black peice where the camera above each driver is."

Then I say oh no, that's the camera, and also say, but I get where you are coming from, it does look like a tractor. Perhaps the name will be related to an International Tractor and news reports will fill our Internets.

So yeah, I kinda get the tractor look. haha

Brawn's a fantastic organiser and implementer but I wouldn't really think of him as a designer. Although he has had two years and the budget to match to bring in and shape the staff required for a top f1 team. It took Redbull a while to get to the front too, so maybe they can start to challenge.

Not exactly what I was getting at, when it was Honda Brawn realised that giving up completely on 2 seasons (the earth car!) and concentrating solely on winning in 2009 was better than trying to get the Honda mess running in the midfield for 3 seasons. I'm just saying I wouldn't put it past him (and Schumacher) to be doing something like that again. It's probably still a lot of the same team that won in 2009.

Possibly yeah. I think the HBD rule changes will help them close up to the front 3, but it will also help Lotus, FI etc close up too. With the nose rule changes the way they are allocating extra time to design the car may be a benefit though. I'm not sure i have a proper dark horse choice myself...

RB8 tomorrow.

I wouldnt bet on the same kind of thing repeating itself. There was the diffuser thing and how they exploited a loophole, rather than sending resources towards that 3rd yr.

But yeah... i think Mercedes will be really strong. Quite possibly the one team the top 3 are looking out for the most.

I thought it was being launched on the 5th? Damn you LewEngBridewell and your incorrect OP!

Monday's a lot better as I won't have to wait the whole day to see it.

:hehe: For reference...

Lotus tomorrow
Sauber, Red Bull and STR Monday
Williams Tuesday

After that just Mercedes on the 21st - and HRT, Marussia due whenever they sort themselves out...

edit just found this about Hispania:

The team's new car, which unlike last year's F111 will be built around a new monocoque, is scheduled to make its debut in the second pre-season test, which takes place at Barcelona on February 21-24

Ah, the candidate misspoke (= euphemism for a huge gaffe that will hamper his chances of winning).

You see, in mentioning that error Andrew, my golden reputation around here has been a tad tarnished.
