If you look closely you can sort of see them (very flat area whereas the main sidepod is more curved), but they are completely integrated rather seperate as the drawing suggested. Still, as a drawing from a verbal description that wasn't a bad effort...

Yeah they are integrated but the functionality would be minimal the side vane/winglets that the teams are all sprouting would be the main function of the side pod "bits" even on the Ferrari.

I can't help thinking that the FI and Ferrari are the two most ugliest F1 cars I have possibly ever seen. Although, is there a reason that this is the way they have chosen and McLaren haven't?

It will be interesting to see which way Red Bull have gone. Either this is an inspired decision from the McLaren boys or they are going to fail spectacularly.

i believe its a compromise of downforce vs drag. the lower nose should create less drag but will minimize air feeding the diffuser. the stepped nose will allow more air under the car but with higher drag and cg. i suspect this is why ferrari have changed to a pullrod suspension to combat the higher cg. mclaren look to be faster on the straights and ferrari faster in the corners. cant wait to see the path rb have chosen.

The nose bump on the Ferrari is horrible and ruins what is otherwise a nice looking car.

The Force India looks the business and is the best looking car unveiled so far. Here's hoping it does very well on track.

:rofl::rofl:

Bump on the Ferrari looks horrible but the bump on the FI is beautiful? Mate you never make any sense!

I didn't say it was beautiful. Just said it was the best looking so far (albiet of an ugly bunch). The bump on the FI is sculpted a bit whereas the Ferrari one is like a slab.

Not because they're my team, but the best-looking car so far is the McLaren. I hope the performance matches the looks!

No s***, you don't need a designers eye to notice this! But to say the bump nose ruins one cars beauty, then to say another car with the bump nose is the most beautiful especially with the sleek looking McLaren is just weird to me!

I do think that the FI has so far the better platypus nose integration. The Ferrari looks like a failed LEGO project. My son is a die-hard Ferrari fan and he was pretty underwhelmed when he saw the pics.

Again, though, performance is what matters. Maybe Ferrari gets it right!

I just snorted out the tea I was drinking. I had the same thought, it felt like a kid's lego version of an F1 car. Joke will be on us if it's fast though.

No doubt the Ferrari will be quick and thats all that matters. But from a strictly aesthetic point of view the McLaren is by far the best looking car so far.

I saw on Lotus F1s Facebook page, they posted "what is with the ugly bump noses"! you could take that and say the Lotus has a nose more like McLaren. But then the marketing people probably aren't privy to the car designs so the comment might come back to bight them. :hehe:

Exactly. The FI nose has a bump but with the Ferrari it's more like bump. I'd be interested to see the theory behind Ferrari's nose design. At least with the bump on the FI having a bit of shape to it, you can see how it has been designed to have as little impact on the aero performance of the car but the bump on the Ferrari is like a speed bump!

It's still a bump! Without a bump is by far better looking!

As fit the performance relativity there's a thread in the pits section discussing it. :)

The McLaren lacks the stupid bump, doesn't look like it's made out of Lego, and is therefore the BEST looking car to be released so far. Case closed. :smash:

The Force India actually doesn't look too bad somehow though... I quite like it. I'll give it a firm 2nd...
