Alonso
Vettel

Webber
Hamilton

Interesting...when Alonso himself named Hamilton as 'slightly above Vettel in ability'. :D

I just have a top 3....a very boring and predictable Top 3:

Hamilton
Alonso
Vettel

Assuming all the cars on the grid are the same, and given a race where the tyres last at least a proper duration (say 20 laps without risk of an unaccountable puncture)

They're def the best three. And I fluctuate about which i put 2nd and which I put 3rd. It would have been Alonso 2nd but I think Vettel upped his game this year. I saw him do things that I had a question mark over. But his car is so outrageously better and confidence sky high he can afford to get out his comfort zone. Really difficult between those two.

You guys first have to figure out whether you rate a driver's current ability or base your score (also) on the past. It seems there's a mix going on. See, e.g., KR whose scores obviously are based on his past performance. So, if true that history is also to be considered (e.g., "sheer luck Brawn"...), then it is absolutely ridiculous to not rate MS with a 10 in qualifying ability. How many poles has this man amassed? Ding ding ding! That's just one striking example.
At least try to be consistent and rational if you dish out 'hard' numbers, will you?

Fair point, I marked Lewis down because of 2011 and all the controversy - I was probably too harsh. In the end answering a question like this is so subjective and we will never get to see them in a directly comparable situation. E.G. some will always have better cars than others.

still put Webber ahead of Lewis and fair to say his 2011 was far worse, showing your true colours i see :hehe: But its true F1 is a team sport, each team being constructors. you can't really judge driver vs driver unless they are in the same car.

To properly rate a driver you must take the car out of the equation. Given a car that's not cooperating, Lewis is number one. Given a car that is at perfection, I think Vettel is number one, and given a car that's neither here nor there, I think Alonso would rule.

We could debate all we want about past performance, but today it's clear that those are the top three drivers on the grid bar none.

Hey WB still friends? :hehe:

Too detailed for me. :) I'll just say that Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso are the best drivers on the grid. Period.

:yes::thumbup:
