And now people are firing on a pair of rose tinted specs and saying that pre-DRS were the frigging good old days!!!!!! Good old days my ARSE. Everyone did nothing but complain. Some people exist to moan I think.

Well yes, me too. I have them on DVD. And I will have THESE races from 2011 on DVD as well. I'm just not going to sit there and cry myself into illness, simply because the drivers are enable to tackle the dirty air problem easier.

Since the begining of time, F1 has always had races that have been mind numbing processions and races that have some memorable action though we only remember the raes with the action. DRS is a tool aimed at getting someone who rarely watches F1 to tune in for every race by tricking them into thinking they are watching Wacky Races.

What did fans moan about consistently in 2010? LACK of overtaking.

Yeah but false overtaking??? Little overtaking is bad, false overtaking is worse.

There were more average overtakes per race in 2010 than in any season since 1991.

If you take a look at Autosport, you will notice an article which states that very little will change about DRS for 2012 apart from the tweaking of the detection and activation zones. As predicted, the FIA have taken note of where overtaking appeared too easy and where it appeared to remain too difficult, and will amend the zones accordingly, with the aim of gaining better results.

There will be the addition of a second DRS zone in Melbourne, while Montreal and Valencia will each loose one of the 2 DRS zones they had in 2011.

This all sits well with Nico Rosberg;

"DRS is a great thing," he said. "In the end, who cares why we are overtaking? They [the FIA] just have to make sure that they optimise it, and that we don't have too many times where one guy just drives past the guy in front, and gets 50 metres ahead by the end of the straight. That is a bit silly then.

"But as long as it is optimised, which will come with experience, then maybe there can be some new ideas about it and how to do it a little bit better. Then that is a good thing.

"It is better for it to be too difficult than too easy. If it is too difficult then at least the pressure is there – like in Barcelona [last year] when it was still exciting with Lewis [Hamilton] and Sebastian [Vettel].

Now we should see it fulfil it's intended purpose - a cure to the dirty air problem and NOT a push to pass button.

Tweaked DRS zones or not; it's still an artificial aid, remove the over-reliance on aero grip; put the emphasis back on mechanical grip, that will have the same effect without the chance of getting it wrong and having motorway overtakes like we saw last season.
