Question is how much are they?!

TV prices are like almost in freefall...I remember the time when LCDs commanded well into 5 figures, and now they're a b**ch to the so called LEDs and whatnot. Especially with LG, their marketing strategy is the most aggressive...new models are thrown out practically every week with the older ones going obsolete weeks after you've purchased!

I just got rid of my 36 inch tube TV that weight about 100 lbs. I spent about $600 in 2001.. I sold it for $20 and had to help get it into the buyers car (that was the deal).. It took so long for me to get rid of it, and the longer I waited the more it became a huge paper weight.

$600 US in 2012 will get you an excellent 40 inch, decent 47 and a bargain basement 50 inch, all which are light years better than the departed 36 inch. I havent replaced it yet but thinking I am going bargain basement.

The Visio 55 I got last year for $2000, I can now get for $1000 w/built in Wi-Fi. What the point in spending all that extra money, just for the right now expirience? None... well except for the right now expirience :hehe:

55 inch (or 1397mm in real money) - how big would your living room have to be? It must be like a small cinema screen!

It's a shame that it'll show the same rubbich as my much smaller and older TV.

Ain't no use if the stuff on the big 'un is the same poor quality as the stuff on the little 'un.

I would probably have to knock down a wall to be able to use a TV this big, which my Landlord may frown upon.

You appear to very pessimistic about the quality of what will appear on the television. Is this because of the BBC / Sky situation?

I got my 42" HD plasma for $400 last summer. I spent like $80 on the hd cables though. I bought the tv because I couldn't read the text on my video games any more on the old tube tv with the high visual quality of games these days. Couldn't read anything on forza 3 or assassin's creed and the like so I had to catch up with the times finally. Wasn't a bad price though when i bought it.

No it's just a comment in general. Because of the hours I work, I'm limited to morning TV and reruns of Familty Guy or Saturday evening TV which tends to be dire. F1 and MotoGP are the only things on TV that I go out of my way to watch though.

Ever heard of DVD or Netflix streaming? You can get excellent stuff on your TV that way. I basically stopped watching broadcast TV years ago - cable news and premium channels is what I watch (plus the races and football games).

Ever heard of having a low income? I'm not a big TV watcher these days and could easily live without one.

I've heard of these shiny DVD thingies. Like VHS only flat and round I gather.
