I feel I want to keep collecting real books for a good while yet. I fancy having a display such as this in my house when I'm retired... I'm half way there already 8-)

 I've always wanted to buy a house with a library. I currently have one bookcase so it might take me some time to fill :hehe:

My books that I've amassed throughout my life are spread over a few bookcases / shelves in both my home in Lancashire and also my lodging in London. I'd love to see them altogether though... it'd make me appear a very learned man! 8-)

Perception is what counts, eh?

Anyway...back sort of on track. I'm currently reading Origins (Spinward Fringe) by Randolph Lalonde (free download for Kindle) as it was recommended to me. It's OK. I'm hoping it gets a bit better as it hasn't really grabbed me yet.

My Kindle reads so far:-
Into the darkest corner-Elizabeth Haynes. Very good. A crime thriller

Picture of Dorian Gray-Oscar Wilde. Very good

Candles on the sand- Katie Stephens. Awful. Sounded good. Girls fiance cheats on her and she goes off to Italy. Dialogue v poor. plot completely unrealistic, and you knew excactly how all the ends would tie up. The only saving grace was the authors descriptions of southern italy

The Alchemist's secret- Scott Mariani. this book was likened to the Da Vinci code. Not as good, not as believable but an ok read.

Lady Chatterley's Lover- very good, dont know why I didnt read it sooner

Fallen Idols - Crime thriller. Quite good. Not as good as Val Mcdermid. Worth a read.

That summer in Ischia- Penny Feeny. Reasonable beach book.

Sons and lovers. Verygood. Third time of reading

All books free or under £1

Im reading a real book at the moment. About the history of Fire Island, off Long Island ,New York. Its written by Esther Newton a professor of anthropology at State University of new York. Wierd choice of book I know but Fire island fascinates me. I got this book second hand on Amazon. Not given up on real books you see.

For you Kindle owners - how long does your battery last? Amazon claim it lasts up to 400 hours but mine's nowhere near that - I'm having to charge it every three or four days, and that's not with huge amounts of use (I read quickly but I haven't really used it that much)? I've turned the wireless off as I've heard that can eat up battery life. Just wondering how everyone else is finding battery charge?

I'm not and will never be a kindle owner, but going on my experience of lithium-ion polymer batteries, you are best to completely run down the battery and then give it a full charge. It may be that the batery has been short charged and will need a couple complete run downs and full charges before you are getting anywhere near the battery life you are expecting. Either that or it is a faulty battery.

Theres something wrong there. I had mine in July and Ive only had to charge it twice. My daughter's is the same. Wifi will use the battery up, I only turn that on when Im downloading. If its the same with wifi off Id contact Amazon.

Which kindle? If it's the fire, the biggest thing you can do to save battery is lower the screen brightness, but since you're saying 400 hours I doubt it's the Kindle Fire.

Have any of you read R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt books? I've read all of them which is in the ballpark of around 25 books. I think I read them all over the course of about 2-3 years. There are a lot of the same characters throughout the whole series, but they never get boring or stale. So when people die 18 books into the series it's heartbreaking :/ Anyway, I'm into fantasy stuff with dwarves, orcs, elves, etc. and blowing people up with fire balls.

Also, read Speed of Darkness. I forget the author's name but it's based on the Starcraft game and you can find it on amazon.com. Even though it was based on a game, it was without a doubt in the top 3 best books I've ever read.

Did Anyone do the Millenium trilogy? (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) After consuming the books over the summer, and seeing the Movie, I bustling to talk about it, if you haven't read them, do.

One of the more peripheral interests (me being a geek at heart) was reading references about old technology, from 8 or 9 years ago!

Well, I've completed reading George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four, which was brilliant. I'm very interested in reading some of his other works, such as Animal Farm or The Road to Wigan Pier. I'll probably acquire one of those two for my upcoming birthday.

On the factual side of things, I'm still reading Walk the Lines: The London Underground Overground. I'm also starting to look at a highly interesting book called A Grim Almanac of Lancashire. Spooky...

What's everyone else reading at the moment? :)

Well... I haven't read much fiction since I left school. I used to be quite the bookworm too.

I did read The Other Hand by Chris Cleave. That was a pretty good read. Although some images that it put in my head are not entirely pleasant unfortunately. At the time I thought it was the best book I had ever read, but now only the gross parts remain in etched in my memory.

I used to really like A Series of Unfortunate Events when I was in school. Only got up to Number 9 - A Carnivourous Carnival before I graduated to high school and never thought about the series again.

I also used to really like the Animporphs, and unfortunately, and embarassingly, I used to read a lot of the Baby Sitters Club books when I was about 9 years old. :P
