Nope, it's pronounced leeter not litter.
And if you want to go French on me, then FFS pronounce litre correctly, i.e., littr like the French and as it is spelled. You pronounce it English, but spell it French. Americans are at least consistent and spell it as it is pronounced, i.e., liter, the Germanic way, which what btw. English is, a Germanic language with lots of Latin (from the French/Norman occupation) thrown in.

Well, you speak British English and are making fun of us 'colonials', so I'm rather sure how you pronounce it plus it was a generalized 'you' as in you Brits and I know for sure how it is pronounced in your neck of the woods.

Well it's pronounced and spelt litre not liter in these parts - there is no emphasis on the er at the end. In fact you could loose the e at the end and it would sound the way it's spelt. See what I mean here?

US: [li:tər]
French would be [li:trə]

Do you see the connection? British is very close to US pronunciation and should be spelled that way, i.e., liter (whether or not you pronounce the r, the first sound after the t is an e or ə). The French correctly pronounce the r after the t because it's also spelled that way in their language.

Litre comes from latin and makes perfect sence in pronunciation


Liter could be mispronounced as 'Lighter' (Li - Ter) or 'litter' (Lit - er)
