"And Mansell was lucky not to be taken off by that RIDICULOUS bit of driving by Alliot!!" - James Hunt
"AAAAAND into the pitlane..... OHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" - Murray Walker
In any organisation in the world, sporting or not, everyone needs a comedian, something to take things with a light handed approach, turn those frowns upside down.
Back in the 80's Nelson Piquet senior was always playing practical jokes on everyone and having fun - when he wasn't having punch-ups with Salazar
. During a boring speech being made by Balestre once, Piquet snook up on him and poured a jug of water into his jacket pocket, and everyone burst out laughing - even Balestre. Even Berger and Senna used to play jokes on each other too.
Then when Piquet gone, there wasn't really a comedian in the paddock as such, but Irvine used to do some cheeky stuff such as having an orange juice fight with Hakkinen in a press conference and telling Miss Belgium to "take her clothes off" in the paddock.
Wurz last year was on form outside the car, telling ITV's Ted Kravitz that he thought Nick Heidfeld should shave his beard, saying Trulli was going so slow he could have stopped for a picnic, and doing his "surfer" hand gesture on the podium in Canada.
With Piquet Jr coming into F1 next year, will he be anything like the comedian his father used to be? In this age of people blindly saying F1 drivers are dull and emotionless, will he step forward and annoy Alonso with endless pranks? Make jokes about Kubica's nose (like senior used to do about Prost)? Call Kovalainen an "uneducated blockhead" (they don't like each other)? Or have a punch up with whoever warms the back of the grid the most?
