So according to Bernie Ecclestone Europe will only have 5 races on the calendar in the near future as it is "finished" for F1, and when he was asked if Europe was the spiritual home of F1 his response was "it used to be"...

Yet he always pushes the fly aways to have euro-friendly start times?

I hate to say it but aren't all the teams, best drivers and biggest crowds from Europe?

Exactly ,probably wants to increase how much each circuit pays him for a race

This has been a long time coming, as I said in another thread, Bernie is making deals to line his and CVC's own pockets, what's best for F1 doesn't come into it, as far as I know all teams are based in Europe, most in England... and the biggest fanbase is in Europe along with most of the best circuits, exceptions are Montreal, Interlagos and Melbourne (in my opinion). I never thought that I'd say this but I would welcome a breakaway if the teams are willing to stick together...

I doubt it will happen. It was only ever a vague threat thrown up whenever the the teams didn't get their way. This is all it will ever be. Ferrari and McLaren have both said in recent times they're committed long term to F1.

One of the biggest voices behind a breakaway always used to be Flavio Briatore. I remember him once on the grid a few years back saying a breakaway was a "certainty". That's how much credibility the whole thing has.

hahaha my thoughts exactly i wasn't sure if it putting it would be a bit strong and get me in trouble.

Threat or not the European races shouldn't be threatened like this to pay more money, they are the heart of F1. Bernie needs more respect for the sport.

Hmmm, I wonder if his bean counters are concerned about the looming European debt crisis and swaying his reasoning.

Odd given the predominant F1 fan base seems to exist in Europe.

Not all the non-euro races have started at odd hours. The Middle-East race recently did, but that is because there is simply not a TV audience in that time zone. Most of the Asian races start at normal times (except Singapore, which is a night spectacle). The Brazilian starts at a normal time (unless you're a western teenage girl... ha ha). I think it's great what has been going on in F1 in last few years, maybe it was Mosely not Ecclestone who was a bit of a stick in the mud and now that he is gone we are seeing a more rapid world expansion.

its stupid, 5pm is too late with no artificial lighting as backup if its wet or cloudy and overcast. I remember Jenson winning in 2010 and it was almost entirely night time with the podium celebrations. Or in 09 with the weather fine you have the problem of sun glare for the drivers.

Its just stupid all round.
