Lotus Renault GP is pleased to announce that Kimi Räikkönen will race for the team next season. The 2007 World Champion, who left Formula 1 at the end of 2009 to pursue a career in rallying, has decided to make a comeback at the pinnacle of single-seater racing. He has now signed a two-year agreement with Lotus Renault GP.

Kimi’s F1 roll of honour includes 18 wins, 62 podiums and 16 pole positions. This experience and success is sure to help the team make a step forward next year. The 32-year-old Finn’s commitment indeed makes for a vote of confidence in Lotus Renault GP, demonstrating the team’s determination and new philosophy for the seasons ahead.

Kimi Räikkönen: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Formula 1 after a two-year break, and I’m grateful to Lotus Renault GP for offering me this opportunity. My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career as a driver, but I can’t deny the fact that my hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming. It was an easy choice to return with Lotus Renault GP as I have been impressed by the scope of the team’s ambition. Now I’m looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid.”

Gérard Lopez, Genii Capital, Chairman: “All year long, we kept saying that our team was at the start of a brand new cycle. Backstage we’ve been working hard to build the foundations of a successful structure and to ensure that we would soon be able to fight at the highest level. Kimi’s decision to come back to Formula 1 with us is the first step of several announcements which should turn us into an even more serious contender in the future. Of course, we are all looking forward to working with a world champion. On behalf of our staff, I’d like to welcome Kimi to Enstone, a setting that has always been known for its human approach to Formula 1.”

Love your sig!
So who will Renault drop for Kimi. Petrov? No he'll probably pay for Kimi. Senna? Very shortsighted Id say.

It wasn't my sig...but good idea! Done. :D

What a prospect 2012 is looking already....Hamilton to go wheel to wheel with not only Vettel, Alonso and Michael....now Kimi again!!!

Bring it on....

Too bad for Senna and Grosjean... Petrov will probably stay in the team, due to his sponsors. But, it's nice to see Kimi back!

Yeah but this is Kimi, so its ok. The sword of Damacles only decends on certain drivers for being outspoken, irreverent, politically incorrect or withdrawn. Kimi isnt one of 'those'people, so its ok.

:hehe: Literally the first interview back and he's already on about not giving a s*** about something or other... love it.

This news has made my day! Hopefully next season the car will be up to scratch - to an extent i don't see why it can't be now the blown diffusers are banned. Be interesting to see if Petrov is confirmed too, i would have thought he would have been already. I hope Senna gets the drive if Kubica still isn't fit... imagine if he does recover though, that'll be a lineup capable of destroying everyone...:whip:

How is that comment any of those things? At least he isn't going round claiming people are racist towards him.:rolleyes::rolleyes: (edit - before it all kicks off, that is just an easy example of a driver showing some of those attributes you have so vociferously damned).

I agree, but.... Senna to Williams? Personally I'd love to see that - make it happen Frank!! :)

Look forward to seeing what Kimi can do and what sort of equipment Renault / Lotus can give him.

Great news. So that's how many world champions on the grid next season? Seb, Lewis, Jenson, Fernando, Michael and Kimi... that's SIX!!!!

Bring it on! :headbang:

With regards to his teammate, I feel it'll probably be Vitaly Petrov. And so it should be. I really want to see Bruno Senna do well, but there's no doubting that Petrov has done very well in the Renault this year, better than the people who've partnered him...except maybe Nick Heidfeld - he was on an equal footing really overall.

Man, where are all of these drivers gonna go next year? Some good ones are gonna be left without a spot, for sure.

We could start an off season poll on this and have more fun than guessing the championship.
