Hamilton issues Vettel with turn one ultimatum

For the second year in a row, Hamilton and Vettel will line up on the front row of the grid, with the Red Bull starting from pole. Last year, with the world title at stake, Hamilton got alongside Vettel but then backed off as they came to the apex of the first corner. He said he would not be so generous this year.

"Last year I started second but braked early into turn one and let Sebastian have the corner," Hamilton said. "I've just told him that's not going to happen tomorrow, though…"

However, if he fails to get past in the first corner, Hamilton has a plan for the rest of the race.

"I hope I have a good start - I really want to get into turn one first," he added. "But, if I can't, I'll follow Sebastian as closely as I can, I'll try my hardest not to let him get more than a second ahead, and I'll try to get ahead through the DRS zones.

Hamilton has looked quick all weekend and, despite missing out on pole, he is confident he will have a decent race pace on Sunday.

"It would be nice to have had pole position, but that Red Bull, as always, is very quick in Q3," he said. "Still, we've got our car to a point where it works particularly well on certain tracks, and we always seem to go well here.

"To be as competitive as we've been this weekend is very encouraging - we're on the front row so we can have a good race from there. And, for the first time in quite a while, my long-run pace was pretty good too, and I think we had more fuel on board than some of the other teams. I feel really good about tomorrow, in fact."

Whenever he says something like this, some sh*t happens. I remember him talking about Turn 1 in Singapore and after Turn 1 and 2, he was 6th from 2nd place on the grid.

Lewis...just keep that slowcoach teammate behind you, and please...keep it clean and give Vettel hell all the way....the car has the pace! As McLaren always turns into the fastest car come the last 2 races of the season. :hehe:

Rather like you I think to make this kind of comment could court disaster. After all anything can happen at the start of a Grand Prix.

The old adage was you couldnt win the race on the first corner...but you certainly could lose it.

Last year Hamilton didnt want to interferfe with the championship shoot out, so he conceded the corner. All he's saying is that this year there are no such considerations and if he thinks the corner is his he'll take it. It doesnt mean he'll go blindly in regardless. If the move's on he'll take it, if it isnt he wont. But no favours.

Lewis and Jenson both seem quite upbeat about the pace of the car. The form has been there all through practice and into qualifying. Fingers crossed for a close fight with Seb! :)

Still supporting the wrong team/drivers :P

:hehe:

That comment I made is going to haunt me forever more!

Indeed it will! You'll no longer be welcome in the McLaren or the Red Bull camps. Ferrari is calling for you Lew.

I'll be interesting to see what Seb does at the start, in reaction to Lewis' comments.

If you remember last season, his swerve over at the start move actually cost him sometimes, but it hasn't been as prevalent this year (Suzuka aside).
