Do not be surprised if Toyota fail again they buy Williams and become a super power as Ferrari and McLaren.

That's a really interesting idea, one I haven't thought of yet...

Hmmmm, it would be so much more efficient for Toyota to do this, Frank and Patrick would sell for the right money as well.

I remember when relations between BMW and Williams were at their worst BMW offered to buy Williams, Williams refused and after BMW purchased Sauber Frank and Patrick advertised the team was up for sale, just to stick two fingers up at BMW.

That's a very interesting scenario and one that I would support but ONLY under one condition, the William's name is kept and never forgotten. Only my opinion but I think William's will disappear from F1 once Sir Frank retire's and anyone wanting to use the William's name will have to pry the right's from his 'COLD DEAD HAND'S'! I hope I am proven wrong  .

Sir Frank and Patrick won't bow down to whatever multi-million dollar car manufacturer tries to buy them out, that's one of the main reasons they fell out with BMW apart from dwindling results.

I think the Toyota engine's pretty good, Wurz and Rosberg were fast through the speed traps at quite a lot of the races this season, it's just the clowns at the Toyota works team who don't know how to use it right or know how to build a decent chassis (or make it look any different to the previous car).

Every team has its bad lull, did anyone predict Ferrari would come back to the front during their miserable pre-Todt/Brawn/Schumacher days - especially 1992? Lulls have come in batches of 4 years for Ferrari and McLaren, it took Ferrari 4 years from Alain Prost's win at Jerez in 1990 to win another race when Gerhard Berger won at Hockenheim in 1994. Likewise with McLaren, it was 4 years from Senna's last win at Adelaide 1993 to Coulthard's with in Melbourne 1997. As for Williams? Their last win to date is Montoya in 2004. Almost 4 years have past, so will there be a win on the cards for Nico and Kazuki in 2008?

People go on about the dominance of manufacturers these days, but answer this question... how many wins do Honda have? One. How many wins do Toyota have? A big fat zero... and don't forget Toyota finished well behind Williams in the constructors championship. Super Aguri also came close to scalping Honda, just falling short thanks to Button's wet weather skills in China, and the "2006 Honda chassis" used by Super Aguri having run out of room for development.

The moral of the story kids is no matter what big manufacturer you are, throwing money at everything won't bring results, not without hard graft and commitment. :)

Things have changed. Your 4-year cycle might not apply to privateers anymore...sadly.

ive read somewhere that Williams was selling off some of its shares to a large firm of some description added in to the close relationship they will try and create with Toyota i think Williams will be just fine.

Nico's decision means that
1) He is happy at Williams and the treatment he has received
2) He is not willing to go to Mclaren and be Hamilton's #2
3) He sees some future in Williams... so perhaps somehting like this:

Well, maybe it's just a coincidence that McLaren and Ferrari had 4-year lull cycles, but I'm confident it won't be too long before a Williams wins a race again.

NR is a good driver and at the moment he's at the right place imo. Williams is a very good team. He's young and I think he gets some good opportunities in the future I believe.

points 1 and 2 i defintely agree with. point number 3 is totally wrong. i don't think Williams is ever going to get near the front again because Toyota is so chaotic. But i think this is the best move until a seat at a better team becomes availible in 2011.

I see the next couple of years being Williams' last chance. The new aero regulations are going to hurt them as they just got a 2nd wind tunnel online.

We are also seeing a trend towards either Manufacturer or National based teams. Team India now, I'm sure there will be a team China in the future. Sponsors would enjoy appealing to people's patriotism.

F1 is changing fast, I don't see a spot for privateer teams in the future. Williams is the only true private team left, McLaren had to sell a huge chunk to mercedes to stay competative...

A Team Britain perhaps?

I don't want F1 to become a flashier version of A1GP hopefully you're wrong about national based teams. Williams to stay competitve should align themselves with a team like Mclaren did but not with Toyota. Frank should go with Honda they've produced title winning engines in the past and there is no reason they cannot do it again
