It was a good race from Lewis yesterday, Vettel was just too quick especially with the McLaren having big understeer issues, he managed to have a decent battle with Mark Webber and not a single bit of contact, and finishing ahead of Jenson is a big breakthrough for Lewis; he's been under pressure being beaten consistently by his team-mate in the last half dozen races.

Whitmarsh said that an odd problem was also costing Hamilton performance and giving him a lot of understeer, which made the drive even more impressive.

"To cap it all, the data showed that he was losing a significant amount of downforce from his front wing. After the race, we inspected Lewis's front-wing and discovered that the left-hand slot-gap had become filled with congealed tyre rubber, doubtless a result of the marbles on the track. As a result, he was suffering with masses of understeer, which further hurts the tyres. In the circumstances, his was an absolutely fantastic drive because it would have been all too easy to have gone backwards when faced with such massive, and constant, pressure."

I think he's learning his lesson but only time will tell.

On another note Lewis has said that whoever reported a big bust him with him and Mclaren is writing rubbish, its not true.

Today's race pretty much explains why I'm a Lewis fan.

I think he can be such an idiot at times, immature behaviour (the snarky message he sent to his team via radio today, good example), he's reckless, drives irrationaly at times, impetuous, whiny.

But, he is my number one driver because despite all his little foibles, he is so freakin good. How he kept Webber behind him lap after lap after lap is just amazing. The pressure alone should have resulted in some major error, but I don't think he even locked a tyre.

I felt very much the same way watching Senna, I knew he could be an idiot, but he was sooo good that I had to forgive him his douchebag tendencies and concentrate how excellent he was behind the wheel.

I think what I'm trying to say is, respect the talent, not the personality.

This. Same reason I am a Hamilton fan. If he could take his personality and cool head back to where he was in his first season he would be the perfect driver to support.

Really? I didn't find him very exciting to support in his rookie season. Or maybe I was just disgusted with McLaren that season...looking at who they hired next to Lewis. But I found him a bit boring, albeit I already supported him in a way as he was giving whatshisname a very rough time indeed!

I'm totally fine with the Lewis of 2010. He drove fantastic all year, bar 1 or 2 major errors, but yeah last year was a heck of a year for him. McLaren NEVER deserved to be in contention until the last race of 2010 but Lewis made it happen.

well having been a McLaren fan, you'd hear about this Lewis Hamilton in junior Formulas who was going to end up with them one day.
So I was following him mostly in GP2 the drive in Turkey was a highlight for me, then once in F1 I thought he would do alright but no where near as good as he ended up doing. I think the fact he was so fast so soon is what ruffled Alonso's feathers, not that he was ever getting better equipment than Alonso. Fernando expected after winning 2 titles on the trot the team were going to be built around him, but McLaren didn't do this nor did they build the team around Hamilton in 07.
Fernando even commented to Ron Dennis before 07 that hiring Hamilton might damage the teams chance at the constructors title. We all know he had wanted Pedro as team mate, if that ended up happening who knows, Fernando may have won in 07, 08, 4 on the trot.

First. Its SO refreshing to hear someone praise lewis, say nice things about him and absolutely mean them (no vested interest)
Second. It sums up why I love silverstone-the atmosphere and the buzz. Cant beat it-Ineed my annual fix!

In autosport, they have a virtual grid,Ive mentioned it before, its been going all through the season. It shows the cars on a grid, their position worked out by taking their best race laps and comparing them to hypothetically perfect laps. Of course Vettel is in front, and second....lewis. despite his bad season and all the crap he's had, there he is, quite a bit ahead of Button , and everyone else in fact.
