Nothing wrong with Hamilton and Mclaren. The only problem has been some mistakes by either, the most notable by Lewis, but that's how it always goes.
Maybe next yr Hamilton is more at ease... he had good pace at most of the races he crashed out.

So who had a worse yr, Hamilton or Massa? hehe

Nicely revealing your bias with the choice of words! "Most of the races he crashed out".....he didn't finish two races this season.

I'd say Massa had the worse year for sure, some moldy oats the prancing horse has been eating this year, it's been tough for anyone that doesn't have a Red Bull and a a Vettel.

I'd agree with Massa too. Hamilton keeps putting himself in situations below where the car should be. Massa keeps getting kicked whilst he's down by Ferrari. Since he came back after his accident he's not had a chance to rebuild his confidence. Everytime he's ahead of Alonso he is ordered to pull over, as we say yesterday. The sooner he gets out of Ferrari the better for him I think.

Wow!

Whitmarsh said Hamilton had been unlucky in Japan and would bounce back, either next week in Korea or at one of the other three remaining races this year.

"The puncture and that incident [with Massa] cost him a place or two," Whitmarsh was quoted by the Daily Telegraph. "He had to slug it out. At the moment he has to keep calm, be disciplined. His form will return. There is no reason why this time next week we can't be celebrating an epic win from Lewis - I hope we are."

Whitmarsh hopes McLaren can help Hamilton to recover to his best and insists that the team is still fully behind him.

"You either have to be incredibly strong, resilient and bloody-minded and not need anyone," he added. "Or if you wear your heart on your sleeve you need help and support. Now I believe he has that in this team, but he has to find some things from himself as well. Everyone in this situation needs someone, and I've just sat with him now, and there is no-one in this team that doesn't believe in Lewis Hamilton.

"There is great affection and great support for him within this team. It can change, and it can change in one week. We could be jumping up and down and celebrating his win, or it could happen in three or five weeks' time. He just has to keep his head. He is still a naturally very gifted incredible racing driver and it will come good, I'm quite sure of that."

Nice to see some support from Whitmarsh, its been some time coming.

But I cant believe him anymore. I used to like him but now I can't. Where's he been when all the muck's been slung at lewis? He's known lewis since he was 11years old. He knows he wears his heart on his sleeve and that makes him easy prey. Where was he? He's probably saying it now because he's being questioned about the situation.

Its almost like he just doesn't like Lewis beating Button. Now that Button is ahead on wins, lets spur Lewis on. :D

I kid of course. BTW, I should be bringing this up in the Japanese GP thread but does anyone else find it strange that McLaren kept Lewis out there even though he was losing seconds to Jenson every lap? I mean come on, you have the damn telemetry showing the tyre pressures, surely a deflating tyre would've caused alarm bells.

I don't believe they kept him out there on purpose, but sometimes I just find McLaren bloody stupid. Does the telemetry and sensors on the tyres work? Or its all for show? Come on.
#279132
Earlier they bring him in on the first stint would mean longer second stint on his second set of options not to mention the extra fuel on that set.
These guys know what they're doing Hammer, they would have had the pros and cons of staying out on a delaminating tyre, vs bringing in straight away as to which would have been most beneficial. One things for sure the tyre failure ruined any shot of a win.
#279133
Yeah I understand the strategy, but I'm talking about a rapidly deflating tyre here, aka puncture. No sense keeping a car out there like that, Lewis could barely make 130R at half speed on that lap. And he lost 2 seconds previous to that lap to Button. Why keep him out when he never made any mistakes?

It would've been interesting to hear the radio comm, wouldn't Lewis have felt it? If he didn't request pit or relay the info he's an idiot too. But I doubt it, he's very quick to relay info to the pits, sometimes referred to as 'whining' by the anti-Lewis brigade.

Will Buxton said in the SPEED broadcast that Lewis had over driven his car and therefore wore out the tires.

Buxton? Who's that...did you make a typo? Surely its not Button...I don't think he's a stupid guy. :P

Well I have a few thoughts on this. See which you think most likely. Bud close your eyes and block your ears

Scenario 1
This is just another in a long line of poor decisions and strategy faitures this year
Scenario 2
They were trying a new startegy to confound and confuse their competitors. Its called "Leave your leading driver out as long as you can with a puncture"
Scenario3
Lewis comes on his radio "Guys I think theres a problem" silence "Guys Im losing time and my tyres feel wierd" silence "Guys I think it might be a puncture" silence "Guys...guys....guys is anyone there?
No-one was there because the whole of the McLaren pit wall were with Charlie Whiting beseiging him to do something about Jenson getting mugged by Vettel at the first corner.

Scenario4 The leaked Mclaren pit wall commentay.NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!

MW= Martin Whitmarsh LE= lewis’ engineer JE=Jenson’s engineer L=Lewis

L: Something’s wrong. I’m losing time to Vettel and Jenson’s catching me. The car isn’t handling
LE: Understood Lewis.
LE: (To Whitmarsh) Lewis is falling back, he might have a problem. Jenson has halved the gap to him.
MW: Jenson is a bloody good driver! Bloody good!
LE: Yes but the cars not handling, there’s something wrong
MW: It’s just Lewis, he cant manage the tyres. He could learn something from Jenson. Jenson’s a bloody good driver.
LE: Jenson is right behind lewis now.
MW: What! (grabs microphone off lewis’ engineer) Listen. Jenson is faster than you. Do you understand. Jenson is faster than you.
L: I know. Im about to let him past. Ive got a puncture.
MW: Stop whining.
MW: (into Jenson’s microphone) Well done my boy. You’re a bloody good driver. You’ve done some of the best drives in the history of F1!
LE: He’s got a puncture, can we bring him in
MW: Not yet. Jenson might need to pit. The RB’s are heavy on tyres if Vettel comes in we have to cover him.
JE: Its ok Jenson wont need to pit for a few more laps.
MW: Ok you’d better bring lewis in. He’s been nothing but trouble this year. He should learn from Jenson. All we need now is another clash with Massa.
A few laps later
LE: Er, martin
Martin drags his eyes away from jenson’s screen to lewis’
MW: Oh for F***’s sake!!
