Very bad news for any F1 driver whose initials are not Sebastian Vettel.

The motoring press cornered Adrian Newey in Mugello, where he was driving in the Trofeo Maserati Gran Turismo race. The master of understatement remarked that the RB8 will amaze all. When pressed for more detail, he joked that if he told all now, it wouldn't be a surprise.

When Chis Horner was asked what the big surprise is, he answered, "So far all he [Newey] has told me is that it's blue."

Adrian Newey is just having a little fun at the expense of Ferrari. Read the linked pf1 article and it will hit you.
wow factor...........................................

So the Ferrari will be a red Red Bull then. Either the "wow factor" is PR talk or Ferrari have found something amazing.

Alonso has his photocopier that he knows nothing about poised and ready! :hehe:

Webber eyeing 2012 championship

Mark Webber says he is targeting the World Championship in 2012 and denies that he said 2010 was his last chance to win the title.

Webber was quoted in an interview in Singapore as saying "Yes, of course, I do think that last year was my last chance at being world champion." However, in Japan, Webber says that he was misquoted in the interview, and that he is looking to next season because his team-mate Sebastian Vettel "has done a phenomenal job" in adapting to the 2011 car.

"I didn't say that definitely - 100 per cent - that 2010 was my last chance ever," Webber said. "This year the car has been very different, and Sebastian has done a phenomenal job. Next year we have some changes coming - nothing massive - but there's some changes, and I have to go into it with positive thoughts. It won't be pretty for all of us if it's the same as this year, but we have to be optimistic. That's all of our goals."

Having come so close to winning the championship in 2010, Webber described this season as "back to normal", but said his aim was to fight for the title again.

"Last year was exceptional; it's not every year you fight for a title. It's back to normal at the moment, but I want to try to get it to abnormal for the future. Winning is a beautiful feeling, but obviously one guy has done too much of it this year, which hasn't been great for all of us."

LOL WTF?? So he's saying underperforming is normal for him?? :yikes:

You'd have to say that RB are completely in the box seat to produce another season winning car for 2012. But, it is GP racing and it doesn't take much to swing things around. I don't know if Ferrari can make the dramatic changes needed to catch and pass RB by next year.

The one glimmer of hope for SF is what happened at Silverstone. RB got to keep their EBD but lost about 40% of their extreme overrun. Under those conditions, and even with not our best tyres we were clearly faster than the RB. If we are to beleive the FiA this time, the RB will loose all their EBD advantage (clearly they have the best) and all of their overrun advantage, that should be more of a negative than they showed at Silverstone. So hope springs eternal over at Tifosiland, and of course, there's always the chance that the RB8 could be another 18 or 19 :-)

Only difference about Silverstone is RedBull and everyone designed their car around the EBD. Switching it off just ruins the design principles of the cars! Next season teams will design around this rule so a one off event isn't that telling.
Also it must be said Vettel was held up a great deal by Lewis leaving Alonso to skimper away to the win. If not for that fact I think Seb would have won anyway.

I did say it was only a glimmer.....

But, on the point, the EBD was still there and unchanged and they only lost about half their extreme overrun. Also, all weekend, Nando and Felipe were fastest through Copse Maggots and Becketts, one of the most aero sectors on the GP circuit.

For sure though, RB are in the box seat and, you'd have to think it will take SF 2 seasons to get back from where they are placed now.

Yeah, the HBD influence remains to be truly seen for next year, good point. As for Newey's comments, meh, everyone always talks a good game! We'll see in March 2012! :wavey:

Idunno... With the smaller engines, don't you think there will be even more of a dependence on aero design?

The aero regs are also changing, it's a big change just as the 09 rules were and look what they did to the pecking order.

Some of you I think are failing to consider the source. Adrian Newey is not given to public boasting, certainly not to deliberately vexing (and thereby energizing) a foe with such resources at their disposal and a will to win as Ferrari. He never remarked publicly about the flexy front wing, the hinged tea tray or the variable rake, but all contributed in some small part to the RB7's success. To the contrary, AN has a record of always playing his cards close to the vest.

I think this was what the barristers refer to as "an excited utterance," an extemporaneous exclamation whose very spontaneity attests to its forthrightness. I think he's on to something that so excites him, it just fair bubbled over.

If it so excites Newey, it's a fair bet it'll depress all hell out of Domenicali, Whitmarsh and Brawn.
